His mother was Sand Snake Woman and his father was a mystery man: Fred ?Figley or ?Vickliz or ?Baker. His half-brother was Percy Baker. He had several indian names including Black Eagle, Grey, and Shoulder. in 1895 his Americanized name of Lewis Baker shows up in the census of the Mandan tribe. Prior to that, he is listed only under his Indian name. I would like to try & find out his father's information & where the surname BAKER came from. Louis Baker married Emma Taylor 1st, then Ellen Grinnell.

If anyone happens to know these people or you are one of these people, please let me know, I have been searching, for them every since I was 15yrs old, and no luck, and now I’m 29 which they are around my age or a little older. Any help would be great, and much appreciative Thank You, Chris

Surnames: Davidson, Davison, Dorman, Baker, Thompson, Thomson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JCC.2ACEB/8653 Message Board Post: Martha Baker of Prince Edward County, VA was the daughter of Douglas Baker and Jane Thom(p)son (daughter of Rev. John Thomson who is buried in NC). Douglas Baker was the son of Robert Baker and the brother of Caleb Baker (the Caleb who married Martha Brooks; there were several later Caleb Bakers in this line). Other siblings of Caleb and Douglas apparently included Robert Baker, Junior, Andrew Baker, James Baker, May Baker, Mary Baker and Samuel Baker (all are not independently verified by me). Martha Baker married William Davidson around 1768 (+/-). This William Davidson was apparently out of the "Buckingham County, VA Davidsons," not the "Prince Edward County, VA Davisons." John and Ann (Sons) Davison's family in PECo had a William of the correct age, but he did not marry Martha. There were three other William Davidsons on the 1764 Buckingham County, VA tithe list, and three of the Davidson men from that county were in the PECo militia (Edward, David and William Davidson showed on militia rolls in PECo in 1776 and 1781; these men were in addition to the William Davison from the other Davison family mentioned above). Per a Library of Virgina record that I just found today, Martha Davidson died in Botetourt County, VA (where she and William had moved around 1774) on 7 Feb 1829 at the age of 78. This is per the Saturday, 28 Feb 1829 edition of the "Visitor and Telegraph" newspaper. Per William Davidson's Botetourt County, VA will, he died in 1812, and he left 4 living sons and 4 living daughters (only two of whom are actually named in the will), in addition to his wife Martha. Perhaps the best-known child was Rev. Andrew Baker Davidson, and he performed many marriages in the Rockbridge County, VA area in the 1800s (he died in 1861). He had several grandchildren in the War Between the States-all sons of James Dorman Davidson (an attorney and poet)-and all 5 of James Dorman Davidson's sons died before their father James did (two or three were killed in battle, one of them after General Lee had already surrendered, and Charles A. Davidson apparently died of TB after the war). Charles A. Davidson was the notary public who signed the Amnesty Document that was signed by General Lee.
Yesterday I asked for information on the parents of Lottie BAKER who married Elmer PENNELL in Huron County, Ohio, in 1893. In the 1920 census they are listed with three sons: Charles, Vaugh, and Elmer. I've since found in the census records possible parents and grandparents for her. 1880, Ohio, Huron County, Ripley Township Frank Baker, age 34, born Ohio Ella, age 31, wife, born New York Lillie, age 9, daughter, born Ohio Hattie, age 6, daughter, born Ohio Lottie, age 4, daughter, born Ohio 1850, Ohio, Huron County, Greenwich Township L. M. Baker, age 37, born New York Mary, age 36, born Connecticut Lucina, age 11, born Ohio William C., age 8, born Ohio Frank, age 4, born Ohio Are these 1850 and 1880 families familiar to anyone on this list? My interest in this family is to find out how Lottie Baker or husband Ernest Pennell is connected to the Van Scoy-Knapp reunion of descendants of Abraham VAN SCOY (1788-1849), Cornelius Van Scoy (1800-1884), James Van Scoy (1807-1860), or Brundage KNAPP (1773-1866). All three Van Scoy men were born in New York, and all four men died in Huron County, Ohio. Cornelius and James were brothers, and Abraham was their first cousin. Brundage Knapp was Abraham's father-in-law. Frances Van Scoy vsk03@aol.com, francesvanscoy@aol.com
One of my New York connections is M. C. Baker, I believe Melvin Cox Baker born abt 1833 in New York. I do not know what part of New York or if his parents were born there as well, I do not know if he had siblings either. I know nothing about the Baker line of my family. M.C. Baker met and married Lucy Ellen Currier in California. There first child was born in Michigan Bluffs, CA and gold minning town. I know that the Currier's came to California in search of gold and am assuming the Baker's must have too. Baker is one of my brick walls. Any suggestions? Any hints would be greatly appreciated. Kat

(1) Lottie BAKER married Ernest PENNELL in Huron County, Ohio, 29 January 1893. In 1920 and 1930 they were living in Bloominggrove Township, Richland County, Ohio. They had 3 children: Charles, b. about 1902, was widower with 1 year old daughter in Richland Co, Ohio, in 1930 Vaughn, b. about 1905, was with wife Lois and 2 year old son in Richland Co, Ohio, in 1930 Elmer, b. about 1912, was with parents in 1930 This family appears in the Van Scoy-Knapp reunion records. Ernest Pennell was elected to an office in the reunion in 1910 and 1911. He and his wife hosted the reunion in 1913. Vaughn Pennell "gave an Oration" at the 1914 reunion. Vaughn Pennell performed a violin solo, and Elmer Pennell gave a reading titled "My First Pipe" at the 1915 reunion. Ernest Pennel was living in Shiloh, Richland County, Ohio, and was elected reunion treasurer in 1915 and held that position for several years. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Pennell hosted the 1931 reunion at their home southwest of Greenwich, Huron County, Ohio. In 1946 and 1947 E. Pennell was living in Shiloh. In 1948 Elmer Pennell was elected president of the reunion. On the 1946 mailing list E. E. Pennell's name is crossed out with the annotation "Deceased" by his name. Three other Pennell couples appear on the 1946 list: Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Pennell, Shiloh, Ohio, R. D. #1; Mrs. and Mrs. Charles Pennell, Shiloh, Ohio; and Mr. and Mrs. V. E. Pennell, 74 Park Avenue West, Mansfield, Ohio. Vaughn Pennell was elected president of the 1952 reunion. (2) Earl Baker, living in McClure, Ohio, appears on the 1946 mailing list of the VanScoy-Knapp reunion. I'm trying to learn more about the parents of Lottie (Baker) Pennell and of Earl Baker and to find out if they are descendants of Abraham VAN SCOY and his wife Mary KNAPP who came to Ohio about 1820.
