Have checked all deaths, marraiges to 1993 but can't find any trace. I think they must have been adopted or shipped abroad. Because the children went in to the workhouse with my father when he was born, he was illegitimate; I assume the reason for them entering the workhouse. My father's name is Sydney. His brothers are Ralph John Baker born 14th sept 1916 , silvertown, West ham. William Richard Baker born 14th aug 1919 Tonbridge, tunbridge Wells and twin sisters Lilian and Katherine born on 7th jan 1922 in Tonbridge. It is late in my father's life and would be fantastic for him if we could find any of these Thanks Alan

I am trying to trace the origin and lineage of John B. Baker, born in Prussia (?) on 30 Nov 1789 and immigrated to PA between 1808-1815. He married Mary Rutter (?) in PA between 1815 and 1822. Between 1825 and 1829 they moved to Ohio and appeared in the 1830 Census for Lawrence Twp, Tuscarawas Co, OH. Their children are as follows: Andrew B (My ancestor) b. 22 Feb 1822 PA Daniel b. 1824 PA Henry b. 1829 OH Sophia b. 1831 OH Margaret b.1833 OH Phillip b. 1833 OH William b. 1841 OH I have been unable to locate this family in PA prior to their move to Ohio, ca. 1825-1829. Any help or suggestions which would help me to document this family in PA would be greatly appreciated. I have documented this family’s activities in Tuscarawas County, OH after 1830 and would be happy to share this info with interested parties. Thanks Glenn Baker

That the 1660s is about the most recent dates in the book. It doesn't have any dates for the 1700s except maybe one section and that deals with official documents of the various kings of England. I think that section goes up to the very early 1700s but only deals with very famous people influential in government.

If you can get back that far it might have something for you. I'm understanding that there is a volume of books by a man named Swem that are absolutely essential for Virginia research. The Genealogical Publishing Company has this volume for sale. The name escapes me - something like the "Virginia Historical Index". At any rate it's probably next on my list of a genealogy purchase from the GPC. I'll post a message to that effect when I receive it as well. That may have more of what you're looking for in reference to Bakers in VA.

I am researching a Ellmore/Shoeman/Kauffman/Baker/Burket family in Roaring Spring, PA. and Altoona, PA area. Charles and Jennie (Himes) Ellmore had a daughter, L. Erdene (Burket) Ellmore. DOB 11-10-1913 in Altoona, PA. She married Dean W. Burket on 10-19-1946 in ROaring Spring, PA. They had 2 children, Darle E. and Scott Lynn Burket. Erdene had a brother named Edwin. and a sister named Flora. Erdene died March 26, 2000 at Nason Hospital Roaring Spring. I am looking for information about Charles and Jennie (Himes) Ellmore of Altoona/Roaring Spring area. This is what I know so far. Charles and Jennie (Himes) Ellmore were Erdene Ellmore parents. What we know for sure is that Charles and Jennie Ellmore had three children. Flora Ellmore at the age of 18 was living at the Eldon Inn at East Main St., Roaring Spring, PA supposedly with her grand parents Simon Kauffman and Melda Jane (Baker) Kauffman. This according to the 1930 census. Erdene Ellmore at the age of 16 was living with her aunt and uncle: Frank B. Shoeman and Alice (?) Shoeman at 402 Cherry St., Roaring Spring, PA per 1930 census. Edwin Ellmore (know as Buzz) at the age of 13 was living with his aunt and uncle, Blaine Butler and Flora (?) Butler at 611 Girard St., Roaring Spring, PA per 1930 census. Edwin died in November of 1999. ANY HELP YOU CAN ADD TO SHED ON THIS FAMILY WOULD BE SO GREATFUL!! THank you so very much! Linda Sydeski Any information would be greatly appreciated. Linda
