As far as I have been able to determine, there is not one single shred of documentary evidence as to the ancestors of David Baker beyond his own father, Thomas Baker. All of the information about even Thomas's parents is anecdotal and unsupported by records. (The same is true about Thomas's own birth and death -- anecdotes, not records.) While it appears to be _possible_ that these Bakers (from whom I am descended through David's son Martin Alexander Baker) descended from the 17th century ropemaker Alexander, it must be regarded as unproved. If anybody can point to any documentary evidence, I'd be delighted to see it. But I've looked for years and can come up with nothing.

David Baker b June 3 1749 in Culpepper Co Va married Mary Webb b Dec 18, 1762 were married in Burke Co, NC in 1779. Mary died in 1794 and David settled in Northwestern Mitchell Co, NC and founded the town of Bakersville, NC . He married Dorothy Wiseman in 1795 and went on to have more children. The Baker lines go back to Alexander Baker, the ropemaker, who immigrated to Massachusetts aboard the "Elizabeth Ann" in 1635. I am studying this line and have a lot of information. My line goes through David and Mary's son William who married Juda McKinney and settled in Limestone Cove, Tn in Carter Co where they raised at 3 sons, William, David, and Thomas (my line) and several daughters and were prominent in that area. I have recently joined Daughters of the American Revolution based on David Baker's service in the American Revolution. He is buried at Bakersville, NC. which, by the way is a beautiful little town in the Blue Ridge mountains and has a website www.Bakersville.com That has a lot of history on it. If you wish more to share information on this line, I can be reached at Jacque@JacqueBaker.com Jacque Baker San Diego, Ca > [Original Message] > From: Jerry Scott <jerryscott572@msn.com> > To: <BAKER-L@rootsweb.com> > Date: 2/1/2005 9:47:54 PM > Subject: [BAKER-L] DAVID BAKER BURKE CO NORTH CAROLINA > > > Searching for any information on David Baker of Burke Co.
