Photo was taken in Covington (Fountain Co.) IN in about 1900, and she looks to be about age 25. I found Viola Glasscock in the 1900 census for Jackson Twp. (Fountain Co.) IN (born Jul 1876 and single), as daughter of Thomas Glasscock and wife Sarah Ann. Ancestry’s “Indiana Marriages” shows Viola Glasscock married in Fountain Co. in August, 1910 to Ernest E. Baker. Email me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Viola (Glasscock) Baker.

Surnames: Baker, Weisenfels, Cragin Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/JCC.2ACEB/9011 Message Board Post: John Martin Baker, b. abt. 1770, married Harriet Weisenfels, b. abt. 1779, the daughter of Frederick Henry von Weissenfels, the commander of Weissenfels' Regiment during the American revolution. The marriage took place in Christ Church in Philadelphia on April 5, 1798. John Martin Baker served in the diplomatic service of the USA in the 1820s. He worked at the US Consul in San Juan, Puerto Rico as the Agent for Commerce and Seaman (1818-20) and in the same job in Matazas, Cuba (1820-21). He was given the job by Secretary of State James Madison after his father-in-law, Frederick Weissenfels, wrote to Madison asking for the appointment (letter library of congress). Harriet spent many years trying to get Congress to reimburse her family for the monitary losses her father suffered during the Revolution. Her children: Louis, Mary A. and Lucy C. Baker continued the efforts at least until 1860. The House Bill to pay the Bakers was introduced by Congressman Aaron Cragin of Vermont. I would like to find descendants of this family.

Family stories say that Richard came here with his father and settled near Connecticut and that they were Quakers. I have not been able to establish either point. He married Sarah Leive or (Lewis). This marriage is said to have been in New York ( not verified ). They had 5 sons, Hiram b. 1805, New York; Lewis b. Jan. 23, 1807 in New York; Stephen b. He was born in Granville, N.Y., July 28, 1939. He was the son of the late Edward Baker and Rose (Viau) Baker. He served in the United States Army Band from 1957 to 1960. He studied music at the Crane School of Music in Potsdam and graduated with a degree in music education. He was married to Karen DeHond in Rochester, N.Y., in 1965. While in Rochester, he taught music in the Wheatland-Chili School District and the Fairport Central School District. He studied at the Eastman School of Music as well and played in the Chuck Mangione Big Band. In 1972 he moved with his wife, Karen, and daughter, Kristina, to Saranac Lake. He served the Saranac Lake Central School District from 1972 to 1997 as the instrumental-band director. He was the founder of the 52nd Street Band, which has entertained people in the North Country since 1980 with swing and jazz music. Upon retirement, he continued to play with numerous small groups and the Wally Siebel Big Band. It was his great joy to serve as a conductor on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Karen DeHond Baker of Saranac Lake; a daughter, Kristina Marie Au and her husband, Timothy Au, and grandson Alexand Jordan Au, all of San Diego, Calif.; a son, Carl Edward Baker of San Francisco, Calif.; a sister, Joyce Baker of Pawlet, Vt.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, William McCabe. Fred was a man who could be trusted equally to say what was on his mind, to provide a laugh and to engender a feeling of safety. He influenced his students, not just in their music, but in their whole lives. His extraordinary gift as a musician affected all who knew him. The mellow strains of his sax will continue to echo down the streets of Saranac Lake and through the halls of the school he served for 25 years and to reverberate in the hearts of those who loved him. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are being handled by the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at the Union Depot in Saranac Lake at 1:30 on Tuesday, Nov. 26. A reception will follow at the Depot. Contributions can be made in lieu of flowers to the Fred C. Baker Memorial Scholarship Fund which will be established. Checks may be sent to the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. Im not related info from www.PressRepublican.com obituary archives
I've "rescued" an old photograph of Herbert Colburn LUNT which was taken at the Siess V. Rosse Studio in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Herbert likely in his teens or early 20's at the time. Based on limited research I did find Herbert C. LUNT b. 22 Dec 1869 in Williamsport, PA to parents Isaiah LUNT and Mary J. BAKER or BARKER. I'm hoping to locate someone from Herbert's family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
