The stories I have heard from my family is that John came to the United States from Kandorf, Germany, around 1870. He is supposed to have arrived via New York with two brothers, one of whom was a physician. Their name might have been something like Prechtel, or Prechtl. Supposedly the two brothers stayed in New York and John settled in Dongola Illinois (Union County). He married a Lillie Drumgoole/Drumgould? around 1881. They proceeded to have many children - Charlie Augusta (1881-1885), John P (1883-1961), Maud (1885-1956), Annie May (1887-1978), Edward (1889-1937), William Luther (1891-1946), Isabella (1893-1893), Nellie B (1896-1993), Franklin Barton (1898-1971), Lillian (1900-1988), Beatrice (1906-1906). Do any of these names sound familiar to anyone? I am particularly interested in finding the parents of siblings of John Preston, or his wife Lillie C. In 1830 Gibson Co.Tn. census BARTHOLOMEW showed up along with a ROBERT, SAMUEL, AND THOMAS, in 1840 he showed up again, in fact all the above plus my JAMES BAKER. Family story is that my JAMES was killed in a logging accident in 1843. This was the last year BARTHOLOMEW showed up and JAMES'S wife and children showed up with TIMOTHY DOLEN which she married in 1846, my g grand dad, WILLIAM PLEASANT BAKER, was listed as a DOLEN. but in this 1850census THOMAS showed up and listed that he was from S.C. I was wondering if this could be the same BARTHOLOMEW, and if there was a connection with my gg grand daddy, JAMES BAKER. Any info would be greatly appreciated. My e-mail is [email protected] Thanks, Jane Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you are not clear if the Isaac Baker in Bourbon County KY is the same as the Rev soldier, the answer is yes...but...there were 2 Isaac Bakers in Bourbon county at the same time. Isaac Baker guarded the Hessions at the Battle of York, he is listed on a plaqcue on the old courthouse wall in Springfield. I have been there. There has been so many of us hunting for the parents of both Isaac and Phoebe, but so far, have never seen any proof of either's parents.
