I have hit a brick wall with mine. All I know is that he was a mariner and was 'at sea' in the 1851 Liverpool census and possibly a witness at the wedding of his son John Matthew Baker at Aber N Wales in 1875 (though this William might well be John's brother) On his own wed cert 1850 Liverpool, his father is John Baker brick layer. regards Martin Val Baker just in case you come across our William ! I now have William Baker born 4th Aug 1857 and baptised 30 August at St Mary, Walton. It turns out he was actually illegitimate and his mother was unmarried Elizabeth Baker (born 1829, Walton and who later married Richard Boyes). Williams grandfather (Elizabeths father) was also named William Baker (born about 1807), he was a Gardener and Labourer, his wife was Alice Scarisbrick, they were married in 1826. I am currently working on a theory that William Baker (born 1807 was the son of William Baker & Ann Mercer, but havent confirmed this yet. I cant see a connection so far, but there maybe one further back. Let me know if any of this sounds familiar, Karen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
