I am not aware of any of my Bakers being in the Chattooga County GA area. However, I know at least two separate lines of my Bakers that were in other parts of GA not very far away. Also, it is not known what happened to a number of other Bakers in my line. It is possible that some of these other Bakers ended up in GA as well. My GGGGG-grandfather, Thomas Baker, was born circa 1711 in Virginia in the area lying between the Pamunkey and Mattaponi Rivers before the two rivers flow into the York River in what is today known as King William County VA. The county name and boundaries have changed several times over the course of VA history. These Bakers were land speculators and farmers who moved to various parts of VA eventually settling in Culpepper County for a number of years before moving to the the John's River area near Morganton in Burke County NC about 1778. My GGGG-grandfather, David Baker (b. 1749), following his Revolutionary War service joined his mother and several brothers and sisters at John's River. His father, Thomas, died during his war service. David Baker eventually relocated to an area of Burke Co. NC (known today as Mitchell County) where he was one of the first settlers. The town of Bakersville in current Mitchell County is named for him. David's son Thomas Baker, my GGG ! grandfather and his son, my GG-grandfather, Davenport Baker, eventually moved a little further southwest from Burke County and settled at Avery's Creek just outside Asheville in Buncombe County NC where my G-grandfather, Samuel Baker, and he and his siblings grew up & married and their children born there. About 1895, my G-grandfather, Samuel moved his family to McMinn Co. TN. Two Bakers of my line (that I am aware of) that ended up in GA were as follows: 1: My Great-grandfather's brother, Jesse Baker (b. 1841 d. 1934) moved from Buncombe County NC to the Union and Fannin County GA area sometime between 1880 and 1900. He finished raising his family there in GA and is buried in Fannin County. 2. My GGGG-grandfather's brother, Charles Baker, (b. 1762 d. 1850) following his Revolutionary War Service at King's Mountain NC-SC moved to Pendleton District SC and later to Cass County GA, currently Bartow County GA. Charles raised his family in Cass Co. GA and is buried there in the community of Pine Log in what is currently Bartow County. I have Hendrix, Hollis, Mitchell, Hall, Howell, & Hearn families (among a few others) on my mother's side that are from the Chattooga and Walker counties in GA. If you have any information on these Chattooga County family lines or on GA Bakers that might connect to my Bakers, please let me know. I would like to hear from you either way concerning these Chattooga families and Baker GA families.
