There are mixed opinions of off-list and on-list. Many times I have seen list users ask that information be on-list so that everyone could benefit from the conversation. If the data is not shared with the list then only one person benefits from the result of the conversation. Genealogical information should be shared with anyone who requests it. If is sad, that to some, this conversation clutters up the genealogy list. Apparently, we have offended some people by cluttering the list with this ongoing thread. In the past I received requests for look-ups on both the list and my private email. This time, I neglected to include my private email in offering to do look-ups. My bad - - I apologize. I think the BW list is one of the finest lists I have seen and would not want to offend anyone; least of all our administrators who do such a fine job. Unfortunately, I thought that getting surnames out in the open would afford more opportunities to connect with long lost relatives. Perhaps, even knock down a brick wall or two and find that elusive, "Place of Birth" for an ancestor. We will loose those opportunities with all our surnames hidden away in private email boxes. That's sad ! So, in the future, I will continue to do look-ups for anyone that sends me a surname, BUT, only if they are sent to my private email. I will not respond to any requests for look-ups sent to the BW list, either past , present, or future. If I haven't answered your request as yet, please re-send it again to: [email protected] As before, the best requests have a single surname with several spelling variations, a given name, and any other information that may make the search easier. To the list administrators; if you find that the BW list is falling asleep, let me know and I'll be glad to liven it up again. To the complainers; I apologize to you but suggest you invest in a delete key.
