It also states he was a political rebel and wanted for quite some time. In June 1849 he was with a Mannheim resistance group and as Adjutant for Hochsachsen. On 15 July 1849 he was imprisoned at Heidelberg as a political rebel. On 14 August 1849 he was a prisoner at the Rastatter Fort A because of a war betrayal. Though this biography in German below is short, he probably believed he and his comrades were patriots against an unjust enemy. I'm guessing there is more to read by the references to page numbers in the text. I don't know if Marvin has any more knowledge as to where these can be viewed.
