Hi, Can anyone enlighten me as to a possible why, Schrenk (father's name), would be changed to Schrank (son's name), in the same location (Schwenningen), and later, in Schluchtern, be spelled Schranck in the church records? Thanks, Jerrian
Spelling was not standardized until the mid 1900s. People spelled how it sounded to them at that moment. Could be different people writing it down at different times. I have documents where the same name is spelled differently within them. Spelling was not standardized until late 1800s early 1900s. People spelled names phoenetically. All these variations would sound the same. Hope this helps.
