    3. Since I'm not a facebook power user and don't understand all of its advantages and disadvantages, please help me understand why your group has chosen facebook instead of a rootsweb mail list like this BW list. Also, why are you splintering this group? Does facebook allow anyone, member or not, to search all previous posts for interesting references to their own research interests? As a member of your facebook group, do all posts to your facebook group then pile up on ones own facebook wall? If I reply to a facebook post for the Baden group, will all of my other facebook friends then have to wade through the original post to the Baden facebook post plus all the comments to that post? Are there so many posts to this BW list to warrant fragmenting it by starting another group and therefore weakening the usefulness of the existing group? In addition to these questions, can you explain the advantages to doing this type of thing in facebook which is a generic social media site/application versus using rootsweb, a tool dedicated to genealogical research and sharing? 2. Hello Paul, we've been in touch before some time ago thru this list. I created the Baden Genealogy Group at FB just because it makes it easier to exchange items like records and fotos etc. by uploading them to a message / reply. This is not possible thru a mailing list or message board. 2. The Baden Genealogy Group don't want to compete with this mailing list, it's just another place with another kind of comunication. So I hope it's not too much advertizing when I promote my group here. Everyone has the freedom to decide to join the group and also to stay here (which I'd prefer, I also stay). I am one of two administrators, and we gave rules to the group: "This is a group of volunteers to share information and to ask for assistance about the BADEN region of Germany which is the smaller part of Baden-Württemberg, as it relates to Genealogy. Please feel free to post your query if you need assistance for your ancestry, or to add any information that may help others as well as links to regional resources. Please accept that this is a non-commercial offer and that we do no extended research for you. We expect that you already have researched the well-known online sources such as FamilySearch or Rootsweb. Please also accept our rule that a new topic should be a new post in order to avoid unreadable threads of multiple messages / replies. "Off-topic" and "out-of-area" messages will be removed from time to time. Commercial offers will be regarded as spam and will be removed immediately without notice, spammers will be blocked. And, no go areas are: politics, hate, intolerance, racism, this -ism and that -ism." As far as the privacy of the group members and their data is concerned I follow the privacy rules we have here in Germany which are much stricter than in the US.
