    3. Diane, there are records online for certain regions of Baden-Wuerttemberg. But I'm afraid you have to do first some research homework in US like checking census records, ship-lists, immigration records, parish records etc in order to find out the German name and the German birth location. Without a certain minimum of useful information a research in Germany is without any chance.
