    3. James I know Schafer as a surname.  As well as Schaefer and Schaffer and Schaeffer... If you google for Schafer Baden you get a lot of genie related hits.  There is even a winery there with the name Schafer with umlat over the a which when written in English is often written as ae to make the a a long sound...
