    3. Also, in your research be aware of how names are used. Often (but not always) the "first" name was their Christian name(Vorname), and the second (or in some instances third) name (Rufname) was used in day-to-day life. Thus Johann Friedrich would go by Friedrich in daily life. It was not unusual for someone who came to America to go solely by their Rufname ...
