    3. Usually only the Italians or Spanish used Maria heavily. I don't recall many Germans as Maria. 3. I have researched using many, many churchbooks from Evangelisch churches across Baden and Württemberg, and I have never seen one in which the name Maria was absent. It was used by itself in the 16th century, then usually became part of a multiple Christian name in the 17th and 18th centuries, e.g., Anna Maria, Maria Sabina, Maria Catharina, Maria Dorothea. 3. There are any number of Germans with the name Maria. And I recall a large group of German speaking Hungarians - who imigrated there during the 18th century and later, expelled, displaced following WWII, to Germany with the name Maria. And there's the anthem in the Sound of Music, Maria, a Austrian nun. > From: gcgauger@hotmail.com > To: baden-wurttemberg@rootsweb.com > Date: Sat, 8 Mar 2014 22:21:02 +0000 > Subject: Re: [BW] Mary Schneider > > Usually only the Italians or Spanish used Maria heavily.
