Mary, There are several misspellings in your message. To get good information you need to spell as accurately as possible. I realize you have no knowledge of German and don't know what's right or not. If a word has an umlaut = two dots over an a, o, or u, you either need to use it or add an e after the letter with an umlaut to show that. You will change the meaning of a word by misspelling that way. German has 30 letters; our 26 (though "Y" is only used in borrowed words) plus: ä, ö, ü, and ß = ss. By using your Alt key, you can make umlauted letters and an "s" set. ä = ae Alt 132, ö = oe Alt 148, ü = ue Alt 129, and ß = ss. The state is Baden-Württemberg (also spelled Wuerttemberg) Last place of residence: Kühlsheim Archiv- Unbekannt (no "l") = unknown Domicile is probably also Uissigheim as there is no Issigheim in Germany. You may get some information by emailing them, but you may also have to hire a researcher. I forgot that Alt 0223 is the code for an ß = ss. > From: gcgauger@hotmail.com > To: baden-wurttemberg@rootsweb.com; scubamama@aol.com > Date: Thu, 6 Mar 2014 03:54:46 +0000 > Subject: Re: [BW] ordering a record > > Mary, There are several misspellings in your message. Could I mail the printout I have to one of the persons you mention below? I would really like to have this piece of the puzzle. Yes, I do have Franz NAHM listed as Francis NAME in 1860, a carpenter, already owning real estate worth $400.00! This is my husband's direct ancestor. We also inherited a family bible that lists the family, but fails to mention his 1st wife and the mother of his first 5 known children! I do have record of both marriages, first to Susanna Stumpf and then to Katerina Barbara Veith, thanks to Mormon records. I recently "celebrated" my 75th birthday, so I am keen on finishing this puzzle! I don't want to burden this list with too many details, but I do want to find baptisms and death records. I do wish I could at least read German! (My knowledge of Latin was left behind in high school 50 yrs. ago, but I can still understand sacramental records in Latin and Latin prayers I learned many years ago!) Would someone on this list recommend a researcher to aid me? Thank you for your wonderful input Craig.
