Nancy, If I were you, I would begin with Weiler bei Bingen, which lies about 65 kilometers from Coblenz (now called Koblenz). The village was renamed in 1973; its former name was Weiler bei Bingerbrück. Under that name, I find that familysearch.org has a microfilm that might help you. You can rent this microfilm, which will be delivered to the Family History Center nearest you. Even though you don't know German, you know approximately when the family members were born, and you will be able to pick out the name in the records--that is, if this is actually the village you're looking for. The concept of birth certificates came very late to most parts of what is now Germany, but the churches recorded all births, marriages, and deaths. I'm assuming your ancestors were Catholic? Because this was a Catholic area. So if not, it's less likely this Weiler is the correct village. The microfilm number is 558659. There are two microfilms for this Catholic church; the other covers an earlier period dating back to 1710, so if it's the right village, you will be able to trace your family line back to that point. Good luck! ShtetlSeeker shows there are 52 villages called Weiler in the area we now call Germany. You should determine the kingdom, principality, duchy, or free city it was located in, so you can direct you query to the local mail list that supports that region.
