It is better to get a kind and generous soul to help a little (but otherwise you should compensate them - translation is not easy, it can take time, and it is a skill). Or learn the basics of the language and use a good dictionary such as the one on Wordreference.com to get at individual words or short phrases. As a certified translator in Spanish and Portuguese, I speak from experience. And I regret that the German for translation studied in graduate school was not used enough and has gotten rusty - just when I need it most! But I have plans to sit in on a colleague's class starting in January, to improve a little.
