Hi everyone, Im new to this so please bear with me. I am currently researching my great-great-great grandparents and need some help sorting out a family connection. My great-great-great grandmother was Apolonia FINK, born 26 Dec 1807 in Weidenstetten, Wurttemberg. Her parents were Johann FINK (03 Feb 1773 - 21 March 1844) and Apolonia CLAß (18 July 1771 - 01 Dec 1809). She married Johann DUHS (14 Feb 1818 - 29 Aug 1877) in Bad Soden on 05 Feb 1848. Family legend had previously said that Apolonia Fink was in a morganatic marriage to the Duke Herzog before marrying Johann Duhs but had become divorced after the Dukes brother died, making him the next in line for a throne. I havent been able to find any records proving this or a member of the royal family whos details match up. There are some records uncovered in 1985 that suggest Apolonia was a maid in a ducal country house so perhaps the story has been exaggerated over time? After Apolonia Fink died on 24 March 1858, Johann Duhs became involved with a Caroline Fink (b. 23 Oct 1837) . Some family members believed that Caroline was one of Apolonias two daughters from her marriage to the Duke. There are no records to show that Johann and Caroline ever married. They left for Australia in 1862 aboard the ship Madras with three daughters from Apolonias marriage to Johann. Caroline later married John Wilhelm SCHMIDTCHEN (14 Jan 1837 - 29 Feb 1916) and died in Toowoomba, Queensland on 27 Jan 1908. Carolines death certificate shows her parents as being Johann FINK and Marie KEPP but I am having trouble finding these people. I have recently discovered that Apolonia Fink may have had a brother named Johann Fink, born 13 Dec 1798. I am hoping someone can help me find evidence that Johann may have been married to a Marie KEPP before his marriage to Rosine ENDRIß (24 Sep 1824 - 12 Feb 1891) at age 54. To throw another spanner in the works, I have just found a Johann Konrad FINK (23 Mar 1733 - 21 May 1816) married to Marie Berta KAPFF. Both died before Caroline was born but do you think Kapff could have be mistaken for Kepp? After Marie Berta died in 1759, Johann Konrad married Ulrike Marie Hedwig KAPFF (who I am assuming her to be Maries sister), but even she died before 1837. Grandparents perhaps? I still have the missing link to connect them to Caroline if this is so. Please help and apologies for the long message. Chantel Qualischefski No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG. The term refers to the marriage of a person well below the station of the other partner in the marriage, such as royalty marrying a lowly commoner. Here a servant married to a duke would definitely fit that definition.
