    3. Cathy, According to the brief history of Swabia (http://wiki-en.genealogy.net/wiki/Swabia), the area was never more than a duchy and even then it was dissolved in 1268. But by 1832 the region was the Kingdom of Würtemberg, The Kingdom of Hohenzollern, the Grandduchy of Baden, part of the Kingdom of Bavaria, part of Switzerland, and part of Alsace. To this day the people are still called Swabians and speak a different dialect of German.
