Annette, The script of old Germany was as varied as the spoken word: there were many dialects. One example can be found at http://www.mun.ca/rels/morav/pics/tutor/mscript2.html. I should point out what you thought were "n"s are "e"s, as you found out. It depends how many letters you have. If only one or two, there are people on this list that will help you. You will have to post the images someplace other than the list, because the list will not accept attachments. Probably the best procedure is to post it on the B-W message board (http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.ceeurope.germany.baden.general/mb.ashx) where images are accepted, then post a message here with the URL of your message. Those willing to help can then download them. I might note there are several self helps available. There are two most referenced: the LDS Germany Resource Outline and Handwriting Guide and Edna Bentz' "If I Can You Can Decipher Germanic Records." The LDS guide can be downloaded from FamilySearch - http://tinyurl.com/5fvazn. The Handwriting Guide is at http://tinyurl.com/6oqntq, and is now apparently only purchasable. The guide used to be downloadable. I can send you a copy off list if you want. Edna Bentz' handbook can be found as a reference book at many LDS Family History Centers. If yours doesn't have a copy, you can purchase one at http://pages.prodigy.net/tjbentz/GERMANIC.HTM At 02:01 AM 8/13/2008, you wrote: >From: Annette Vliet <amvliet18038@yahoo.com> >Subject: [BW] Letters in Old German >To: baden-wurttemberg messages <baden-wurttemberg@rootsweb.com> > >Hello Everyone, > > I have several family letters written in German...probably what > is known as "Old German" or "Old High German".
