Claudia or Claudie is the fem. form of Claude or Claudius. I think Clyde is a male name and not German. I have an ancestor of German descent who was a first born son and was named Claude. The next sibling was the first born female and she was named Clyde. Is there a legitmate explaination? Can someone tell me what the German name "Franz" would be as used in America. Would Francis or Frank be appropriate? Also, I have a relative that has a father with the last name Rolf and a mother with the last name Diekemper, the relatives last name is listed as Rolf-Diekemper, but when he came to America he went by simply Diekemper. Does this mean that he was adopted later by the father or did they give both names in the case of not being legally married. I have relatives that took the females last name because of wealth in the family, but I've never came across the two names together as a Surname. Thanks for any help~Gayla
