I have run across the term 'Beigeschrieben' in some records. I think it may mean a foster child or an orpan that was taken in by the family since the surname is usually different than the head of the household. Does anyone have a better translation? ThanksMatt
Matt, Try this: beischreiben, irr.v.t., to write in the margin; add (notes, comments,etc.). Beischreiben, n., appended or enclosed note or letter. 'Beigeschrieben' is the past participle of the verb.
