    3. Hello, I will be visiting Speyer in 2 weeks. Can someone tell me if they would have any genealogy documents-vital records, civil records for someone born in Grunwettersbach, Durlach, Karlsruhe, Graben? I would be searching for Lichtenberger,Carl and Schlageter. Thanks. Judy in NJ J. Eggers Msgene@mac.com

    3. I was in that area several years ago. It is my understanding that every town will have its own records hall and perhaps each town will have more than one if there both catholic and lutheran churches. In the town of St Leon (not too far from Speyer), a distant cousin took me to one of the records cashes where all of the church records were kept (there was only a catholic church in this town). Some of the church books went back as far as the 1600's but many villages in this area lost most of their older records during the Thirty Years War. You may have better luck in Speyer as it was the regional catholic center of the area. ________________________________ From: J. 3. I should have added this information as well. How far is Karlsruhe from Speyer? Is there public transportation? I will be on a river cruise and will have a free day in Speyer. If Karlsruhe is not that far and I cold get back to the boat by 6 PM, I would like to visit the archives. Thanks for your help. Judy On Nov 23, 2008, at 2:09 PM, J. 3. Yep. You'll need WHO, WHERE, WHEN, WHAT you already know, their FAITH, and what you need to know if you are going to the local church. It would be a good idea to check for a central archive before making your trip. For civil government you need all of the above except their faith, and you'll need proof of direct lineage. :-) Don ----- Original Message ----- From: "J.
