I'm looking for the ancestors of Henry Kalb born September 4, 1831, in Germany; died May 16, 1908, in Richland County, IL. Do know he is listed on both the 1870 census and the 1880 census for Richland County, IL. The census lists Henry's mother and father as being born in Germany. Also lists his wife's parents as being born in Germany. Do not know identity of any of the parents. He may have had a sister Margaret E. and maybe a brother Michael. Henry married Elizabeth Wolf and they had anywhere from 11-14 children, one of whom was also named Henry (DOB: 6/22/1857; DOD: 6/10/1938). Others were George, Conrad, Theodore, Clara, Minnie, Anna, Katherine, Emma, John, Edward, Louise, and others. Any help would be appreciated. _________________________________________________________________ Windows Liveā¢: Keep your life in sync. http://windowslive.com/howitworks?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_t1_allup_howitworks_012009
I have no connection with KALB, but I do have a suggestion or two that might help you. You probably want to look for Ohio records for some of your answers. Elizabeth and the first 5 of children (George, Henry, Elizabeth, Conrad and Catharine) were born in Ohio so chances are that Henry Kalb married Elizabeth Wolf in Ohio. The marriage recording of Henry & Elizabeth, or one of the children's birth records may provide you additional information. If Henry applied for naturalization Ohio, may be where he applied. It also looks like Henry immigrated in 1840 (according to the 1900 census). If this a correct year it means that he was about 9 years old when he came to America, so chances are that he either came to America with his parents, or as a servant. I noticed that there appears to be a four year gap between the birth of two children - Catharine and Anna; which is more years than between the ages of their other children. Based on age, Catharine would have been born 1862/1863 and Anna would have been born about 1866/1867. During this 1862/1863 and 1866/1867 time frame the family also moved from Ohio to Illinois. Have you considered checking to see if Henry may have joined an Ohio Civil War unit and upon his return after the war that the family moved to Illinois? You may want to consider that Henry is an English version of the German name of Heinrich or Heimerich, amongst others. When you take this into consideration this information might be something you are looking for: Name: Heinrich Kalb Arrival Date: 14 Oct 1840 Age: 9 Port of Arrival: New York Port of Departure: Havre Place of Origin: Deutschland Ship: Ville de Lyon Good luck on your search. -----Original Message----- From: baden-wurttemberg-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:baden-wurttemberg-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Isabelle Newlin Sent: Friday, January 16, 2009 10:11 AM To: baden-wurttemberg@rootsweb.com Subject: [BW] Henry Kalb born in Germany 1831 I'm looking for the ancestors of Henry Kalb born September 4, 1831, in Germany; died May 16, 1908, in Richland County, IL.
