Hi Marvin. Mathias and Fredericka had a son Carl and twins Mathias and Joseph, daughters Emma, Caroline, Anna Maria, and Rosina who died as an infant. Names on Fredericka's' side are Ludwig, Andreas, Catharina, Johan and Rosina. My guess is the names of their children were taken from Mathias side of the family. His death certificate says his father's name was Anton. This was completed by his daughter Caroline, my GGrandmother. Perhaps she really didn't know the name but is is one that appears no where else. In 1849, there is a Mathias Schlageter age 27 from Baden, who arrived in New Orleans aboard the CHARLEMAGNE, May 18, 1849. He was apparently traveling alone. This is a possibility. He must have traveled to New York because that is where all the family lived and where the records are. I also have naturalization papers from 1854 for a Mathias Schlageter, and In 1863, a 38 yo Mathias Schlageter served as a Pvt. in the 6th Regiment of the New York National Guard, Company B . Mustered in June 22, 1863 , mustered out July 22, 1863 with Company in New York City. I am assuming that it is our Mathias. The age (38) matches information on his death certificate. None of the documents collectively give, age birthplace and birthdate. Any assistance is appreciated. Thank you.
