    2. VALOIS
    3. A short reply now, more later. Adolf was one of Joseph Jacob, and Jacob Joseph's brothers. I think there was no John Baptist brother, and the authorities mixed up the name of their priest brother, --- Dear Mr. Valois: Thank you for your e-mail of May 2, 2001, asking for information about Johann Valois. The Johann Valois who got into trouble in Offenburg was Johann Evangelist Valentin Valois. The confusion about his name results from the fact that his name appeared written incorrectly in some priests' directories, along with an incorrect birth date. This mistake was then copied or entered into other reference works. Even in the personal file of this priest that we have in our archives, his name is occasionally written incorrectly, i.e. Johann Baptist instead of Johann Evangelist. In the birth records of Rastatt there is no entry for a birth on November 25, 2810, so there could not be another Johann Valois born there on this date. I hope this information clears up the confusion somewhat. -----Original Message----- From: Marvin Hoerig <mhoerig@wi.rr.com> To: baden-wurttemberg <baden-wurttemberg@rootsweb.com> Sent: Fri, Jan 31, 2014 5:31 pm Subject: Re: [BW] Prisoner Lookup Robert There are two Valois prisoners - one was from Rastatt. 3. Marvin, I found the record on familysearch.org. He is the son of Alexander Ball and Coletta Zaph. He was Christened in Gaggenau on March 20, 1825, being born on March 19. He died on July 9, 1890 in Gaggenau. I have not looked at at the actual online records yet at the B-W Archives. He was Catholic and the baptism occured at Sankt Josef Katholisch in Gaggenau. 3. Marvin, Thank you for taking the time to share this additional information. I have a Joseph BALL who was born in 1825 in Gaggenau and died in 1890 in Baden, probably Gaggenau since his death was listed in the same registry as his birth and Christening. . I know his parents, but have not investigated further - marriage children, etc. Joseph is a fairly common name in the BALL family I am investigating. Now, this is pure speculation on my part but if this is the same Joseph Ball I wonder if his experience influenced his cousin to emigrate to the US in 1854 with his family which included 4 sons, 3 in their teens. One of genealogy's endless puzzles. Which reminds me do you have any HORNUNG's from Gaggenau on the list? This is a related family that also emigrated but in 1853 with several sons. Thanks again Marvin. Your time and efforts are appreciated!
