Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and help! Turns out that Röderthal's relationship to Elmstein (Bad Dürkheim, Rhineland-Palatinate) was the key - see several mentions of Röderthal on this page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elmstein), which tells it was a mining settlement. Have sent for FHL films for Elmstein which, hopefully, will find the family mentioned there. Again, thanks for all the help! ~Carol ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Message: 3 Date: Thu, 6 Feb 2014 14:07:41 -0500 From: "Carol Hornung" <chornung@comcast.net> Subject: [BW] R?derthal To: <BADEN-WURTTEMBERG-L@rootsweb.com> I just uncovered a church record that states the person, Friedrich Manges, was a resident of R?derthal. My guess is that this is R?derthal, Bad D?rkheim, RP but I am not finding much on R?derthal itself. Is/was that a village? R?derthal is not listed in the LDS film library, although Bad D?rkheim has been filmed. The marriage of Friedrich's son took place in 1797 in Michelfeld (Angelbachtal), and other members of the family lived in Eschelbach (today part of Sinsheim in Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, BW). Is there anything closer to Sinsheim/Michelfeld that might be the R?derthal I'm looking for? Do you think I'm on the right track here? Carol, According to ShtetlSeeker, Röderthal (about 14 miles SW of Bad Dürkheim) is in The Pfalz (a property of Bavaria) and is not in either the Grandduchy of Baden nor the Kingdom of Würtemberg. You would be better served by one of the mail lists that serve that area. <http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/DEU/PFALZ.html>http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/DEU/PFALZ.html http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/DEU/RHEIN-PFALZ.html http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/DEU/PALATINES.html The closest village to Röderthal with microfilmed records seems to be Elmstein (about 2 miles N of Röderthal). There is both a Katholische and Evangelisch-Reformierte church in Elmstein. The microfilm catalog specifically states it has Iggelbach records in the ER church. Hi Carol, you can find all german places on the german site http://gov.genealogy.net a good map of also smaller places is http://here.com (used to be nokiamaps), sometimes better than google. you can find it when you enter Röderhal, Elmstein Röderthal means possibly Röderthalerhof which is part of Elmstein, Bad Dürkheim Find it here: http://gov.genealogy.net/item/show/RODHOF_W6731 click on "sprache wechseln" on the left to change to english Sven Am 06.02.2014 20:07, schrieb Carol Hornung: > I just uncovered a church record that states the person, Friedrich Manges, > was a resident of Röderthal. > > My guess is that this is Röderthal, Bad Dürkheim, RP but I am not finding > much on Röderthal itself. Carol, I used the simple expedient of typing Röderthal into google maps and came up with a road (the K20) and what looks like a collection of a few houses approximately 1km north east of Iggelbach. That Röderthal is approx 15km south west of Bad Dürkheim. Hope that helps. Jennie, There is only one Höfele on the list. He claimed a residence at Ötigheim, Rastatt, Baden. He was incarcerated in 1849 and gave little additional information. There were 17 Löfflers on the list. All but one was from Baden - that guy was from Prussia. None were very informative about their personal information.
