    3. George Michael Dorsch born 24 Jun 1814 arrived in NYC on 22 May 1854 from Bremen on the SS Charlotte. He is a shoemaker. His wife Anna Marie Swartz Dorsch born 09 Apr 1827 in Baden-Wurtemberg and 2 daughters Margaret Mary Wilhemina Dorsch b 1853 Baden Wurtemberg and Caroline Mary Dorsch b 1849 probably Baden-Wurtemberg, would have left Germany before 1860. I found an Anna Marie born 1823 arriving in NYC 26 Nov 1855 on the SS louisianna, but the 2 daughters are not with her, so perhaps this is not her. I am hoping to find the parents and siblings of George Dorsch and Anna Marie Swartz. I am hoping there are birth or census records. Thank you for any information you can provide. If you find other relatives in neighboring towns, those towns may be in Hesse as the border is very near this area. 3. Laura, So lets see if using Rosena / Rosine Wienbreener name from Wurtemberg helps to narrow down the location that they came from Hi Peter, I notice that there was another passenger on the Noemie named Rosine who was also 23. Here is her information: First Name: Rosine Last Name: Weinbrenner Occupation: Farmer Age: 23 Ticket paid by: Self Sex: Femaile Literacy: Unknown Ship: Noemie Arrived: 2 Oct 1850 Country: Germany Port of departure: Havre Place of last residence: U PROVINCE OF LAST RESIDENCE: Wurtemberg City or village of destination: New York Plan: Unknown Country of birth: Germany This Rosine is of particular interest because she shows up on the passenger manifest directly below Otto and Gustav Hahn and is from the same province and going to the same destination with the brothers. It suggests to me that she was in line right behind them when the ship's clerk filled out the manifest, i.e. they had to have met at least once. See https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18414-27559-44?cc=1908535&wc=M9M6-RK2:n90033921 And here's the clincher that shows that this Rosine indeed became Otto's wife--the death certificate of their daughter Sophia Golden (nee Hahn) in Washington:https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N3RC-WCFname: Sophia Golden death date: 13 Apr 1940 death place: Sprague, Lincoln, Washington gender: Female age at death: 79 years 1 month 22 days estimated birth year: 1861 marital status: Married spouse's name:Thomas W. Golden father's name: Otto Hahn mother's name: Rosena Weinbrenner film number: 2023755 digital gs number: 4222948 image number: 383 volume/page/certificate number: 17 I don't see any city/town of origin/birth information for Rosine. There is a Rosine Hahn in the Miller & Lounsbury & More (October 2012) family tree in Ancestry that you should look at (I don't have a membership so I can't do this for you). Sorry I sent you down the wrong path before (looking for Rosine Herrenbauer). Came to US in 1850 on ship Neomi. Both settled in Iowa and lived there till they died. They say that they were born Gustav at or near 1822. Otto at or near 1817. Give or take 2 either way. Can you assist me in finding their parents in Daden-Wurttemberg, Germany. Me: I see Otto and Gustav arriving on the Noemie on 2 Oct 1850, ages 34 and 28 respectively with province of last residence 'Wurtemberg'. The Noemie sailed out of the French port of Havre. Port of entry was either New York or Philadelphia and the brothers' destination was New York. I was not able to find these two in the SW Germany Emigration Database. Hahn is a very common surname in Germany and they currently show up in every county in Baden-Wurttemberg but they are heavily concentrated in a few with Ansbach the heaviest. Do your own search at Geogen http://christoph.stoepel.net/geogen/en/Default.aspx I found 64 year-old Otto Hahn in the 1880 US Census in Allamakee County, Iowa. He is married to 52 year-old Rosine W. from 'Wirtemberg'. I see that on the same 1850 arrival on the Noemie with Otto is a 23 year-old Rosine Herrenbauer from 'Wurtemberg' heading to Iowa. Might this be his future wife? First name, age, destination all match. She was the only person of that surname and paid her own ticket, i.e. I'd say she was single. They may have met on the ship and the brothers decided to head west instead of to New York City. The Herrenbauer surname is extremely rare. A person with that surname emigrated from the village of Unterheinriet (near Heilbronn). Geogen shows few counties with that surname today and Heilbronn is the most heavily concentrated. Unless you know better, I'd look for Rosine there. It looks like the LDS have films for this location. So I didn't help you with Otto or Gustav but I may have given you Otto's wife. Happy hunting. 3. Thank your Laura. You are right ! Otto was born in 1816 and brother 1822/23 I think. Its been a long time since I looked at this project for my Vietnam buddy. So I looked at all your attachements. I kindda put all that Otto stuff together for reference but his wife's line is down the Gustav Hahn. I have him married to a OConnell and can't find their gaves anywhere. But more important is where they came from in Germany. Everything always says Wurtemberg. Thats the way they spelled it. And we have boat from France they all came in. Thanks again for all your great work Laura ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ronald and Laura" <rlboz@att.net> To: <baden-wurttemberg@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, February 09, 2014 2:37 AM Subject: Re: [BW] Gustav Hahn - Otto Hahn Hi Peter, If there were postings about Hahn on rootsweb you can query for that in the archives and see all the old postings (I admin some boards for rootsweb and used to admin lists) go to: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/BADEN-WURTTEMBERG Now, I did that and found another posting from you that said Otto was born 1816 (see this post: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/BADEN-WURTTEMBERG/2013-04/1364979663) and this one: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/BADEN-WURTTEMBERG/2013-02/1361990930 while here you say 1828 which is correct? It helps to have the most accurate info since so many people had identical names. If it is 1816 I found this http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=78722725 Often on a death record you can find birth info. This would point you to the right place to look. And I queried the cemetery and found a Rosie ... http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gsr&GSiman=1&GScid=94888&GSfn=&GSln=Hahn https://www.google.com/search?q=%22Otto+Hahn%22+and+%22Gustav+Hahn%22&rlz=1C1ASUT_enUS485US485&oq=%22Otto+Hahn%22+and+%22Gustav+Hahn%22&aqs=chrome..69i57.25622j0j8&sourceid=chrome&espv=210&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8 The long link above I put in exact phrase in advanced google search for "Otto Hahn" and "Gustav Hahn" just the way I typed it. I got 7,420 hits. I know some of these are not yours. But if you do a more specific search you may find more... http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?forum=hahn&url=%2Fhahn%2F&path=%2Fhahn%2F&terms=Otto&boolean=AND The above link had many Otto Hahn listings in Iowa Hope this helps!
