    1. [BW] Microfilm for Weitenung, Baden->STEMMLER
    2. Hello group! Has anyone out there had the opportunity to research the LDS film #1045126 in the community of Weitenung, Baden? Looking for the STEMMLER family, specifically Sebastian Stemmler born 20 Jan 1827; and or Stephan STEMMLER born in 1811. I'm in the process of trying to find a "needle in a haystack." I've located STEMMLER families in Stollhofen, Söllingen, Schipftung (Sinzheim), but not my direct ancestor Sebastian STEMMLER. They have a direct relationship with the SCHUH family of Stollhofen, which has roots in Leiberstung. Anyone with info or opinions let me know, thanks Tim Allgeyer Cincinnati **************Psssst...Have you heard the news? 2. Hi Matthew I'm hoping your copy of "Emigration from Germany to Russia in the Years 1763 to 1862" will shed some additional light on my Re my 3 gr grand uncle Christian Gottfried DOLL and his "foster parent" Jacob Kirn...I found some info online from "Ostwanderung der Wuerttemberger 1816-1822," Sammlung Georg Leibbrandt, by Karl Stumpp and published in 1941. Perhaps this is the same as your text. Her is all I know: Source: Markgroengen Evangelical Church, FamilyRecord Book Christian Gottfried DOLL was born 4 Jun 1787 in Markgroeningen, Ludwigsberg, Wuerttemberg, Germany He was Confirmed in 1801. Served as a soldier in the Russian Liebguarde (Lifeguard). Received a title (Nobility), name changed to Dollenius as a result of entitlement, emigrated to Petersberg (Russia?) in 1804 (I understand that the Liebguarde were bodyguards for Czar Alexander I. They were skilled marksmen. A friend from Russia says Petersberb & St. Pertersberg are/were one and the same.) also: Published by the Odessa Digital Library - 9 Apr 2001 http://www.odessa3.org/collections/ships/link/ostwand2.txt The following index data has been taken from the book, Ostwanderung der Wuerttemberger 1816-1822, Sammlung Georg Leibbrandt, by Karl Stumpp and published in 1941 S. 3. About six or seven years ago, I had this lovely lady translate my ancestor Christoph Fraas' entire emigration record from Bavaria. Over 25 pages of the old German script were quickly and accurately translated. She did a fabulous job! I recently tried e-mailing her and it came back undeliverable. A letter sent with further translation work was sent back undeliverable and "unable to forward". A telephone number she gave me on her correspondence was "disconnected". 3. You might want to look at the Wikipedia article on the history of Germans in Russia and the Soviet Union. It covers all of the different German groups that wound up in Russia and for those who moved on, where they went to after that experience. 3. I would guess the word may have been Champagne, the famous wine but more likely the province or now department of France and probably applied to the ship. The Belgian sea port was likely to have been Antwerp if we are talking about across the ocean voyages. What is the context of your question? i.e. when in time, destination of the ship and names of passengers, etc. Eric Schaal -----Original Message----- From: baden-wurttemberg-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:baden-wurttemberg-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of DANIELKATHYK DIETRICH Sent: Thursday, September 04, 2008 3:18 PM To: baden-wurttemberg@rootsweb.com Subject: [BW] Sea Port This was listed for departure from a Belgian sea port."chamfaigre" I know the spelling is wrong. I don't know Wilhelm's wife's surname, only that her first name was Caroline. I have absolutely no information regarding Wilhelm's ancestors, only that he was born about 1823. Wilhelm immigrated to the US after 1848, since Wilhelm & Caroline's daughter, Ernestine was born in 1848 in Wuerttemberg, Germany. She married a John (gustav) Bischoff in Camden, NJ and settled in Winslow Township, NJ. I know that Ernestine came over with siblings and unaccompanied by her parents on a difficult voyage, according to hand-wirtten notes left in family "treasures". Her emmigration application was filed in Horkheim. But I can find no record of her or her family living there either. 1. [BW] Benzneder or Schnikke- alternate spellings?
    2. Hi folks. I have two people I'm trying to research. Both arrived in 1854 on the Bark Lina from Bremen. They are Louise Benzneder and Louise Schnikke - at least that's how the transcriber spelled these names. I found nothing beyond the ship transcript on either. Does anyone have any idea into how their names might have been spelled later by English-speaking Americans? thanks Madelyn Bader **************It's only a deal if it's where you want to go.
