There are 104 Scheitz (rhymes with bites) including a few around Heidelberg. Thinking about this name, I think it possible that it was Schütz in Germany. It rhymes with shoots only more like sheewwtz but no dipthong. There are more than 12,500 Schütz in the modern German phone book. I can see how Schütz could become Scheitz (as spelled by an American) and easily how it could become Sheets although it would more likely evolve into Schutz (Shoots). So, the water gets muddier, hopefully on its way to getting clearer. There is a Heidelberg in Baden, Sachsen and Hessen and I assume you are interested in the Heidelberg in Baden. Have you tried looking at the microfilm of the church records that you can attain from Family Search for Heidelberg? (http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp ) It looks like they have filmed the different church records from 1569 - 1961 and reviewing them may help you locate something. The church records are just some of the documents that have been microfilmed for Heidelberg. I would also try to see an original / copy of any document found. Transcription suffered a bit in the Castle Garden data base, at least in the case of my TIMM and PACKLEP ancestors in 1888. - wrong age for my grandfather : he was eleven months old. C.G. transcribed it as four months. it is difficult to read. i've seen it. - wrong destination for an accompanying young woman. The TIMMs were going to Texas, and so did she (I recently found records on her and she was living in the same area as my TIMMs). The next family down on the original pax list was listed as going to Michigan and the transcriber apparently erroneously associated my Auguste PACKLEP with that family (even though a large bracket grouped her with the TIMMs). Verify anything you get off of the magic computer and its connections. Don't assume any of it to be 100 percent accurate.
