Yep. You'll need WHO, WHERE, WHEN, WHAT you already know, their FAITH, and what you need to know if you are going to the local church. It would be a good idea to check for a central archive before making your trip. For civil government you need all of the above except their faith, and you'll need proof of direct lineage. :-) Don ----- Original Message ----- From: "J. There are several train connections per hour between Speyer and Karlsruhe. Express trains take 39 minutes, other trains about one hour - so you should easily have some hours to spend in Karlsruhe. You can check out the train timetable at http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml Regards, René Von: baden-wurttemberg-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:baden-wurttemberg-bounces@rootsweb.com] Im Auftrag von J. I was in that area several years ago. It is my understanding that every town will have its own records hall and perhaps each town will have more than one if there both catholic and lutheran churches. In the town of St Leon (not too far from Speyer), a distant cousin took me to one of the records cashes where all of the church records were kept (there was only a catholic church in this town). Some of the church books went back as far as the 1600's but many villages in this area lost most of their older records during the Thirty Years War. You may have better luck in Speyer as it was the regional catholic center of the area. ________________________________ From: J. Hello Andreas, I am writing to you in English since I haven't studied German for a long time I looked at your family tree on your website and we have several common ancestors: Mathias Allinger and Margarethe Schrempf are one couple. Mathias Steinle is another. I haven't looked closer but I am sure there are more. There is an American Allinger family website that may answer your question. I will contact you privately to forward the information to contact John Allinger in Washington. You also might want to contact Veronique Allinger Catteau who lives in France and has an extensive collection of Allinger research.
