    3. Hi Daniela I have a book of marriages and births in the area of Musberg which is really close to Stuttgart. I found an entry for Seitz. Maybe someone can translate it for you. Martin Eblin, Pfarrer 1. Anna Maria, 2. Barbara, born 25.3.1596 3. Sara, born 30.5.1597 4. Regine, 7.1.1599 5. Polycarpus, born 13.6.1600 6. Samuel, born 25.10.1601 7. David, 19.4.1603 8. Hans Jacob, born 7.4.1605 9. Ester, born 15.10.1606 10. Josef, born 18.4.1609 REMEMBER the day of the month comes first, then month, then year. Example: #4) Regine(a) born January 7, 1599 I don't know if this is a help or confusion. The entry # 4 might be the mother of the one you are seeking. The entry is for Musberg which held the church records for Stuttgart for awhile. I have a lot of family in this area. The one I was referring to in my mail to Marvin Hoerig was not the one which is now part of Sigmaringen, but the one on the "Hochrhein" ("High Rhine", that is the part of the river flowing west, before it turns to the north). The river is also the border to Switzerland, there is a bridge from Hohentengen across the Rhine to the neighbouring country. Herdern is a smaller village just next to Hohentengen to the east and it is today an administrational part of Hohentengen. Jestetten is also in Germany, another 10 miles north-east of Hohentengen and Herdern. The area around Jestetten used to be a special economic zone called "Zollausschlussgebiet" (customs exception area) where people could do trade with Switzerland without having to pay customs duty. The idea was to support this little corner of Germany whichis almost completely surrounded by Swiss territory which used to have a hard time economically. More interestingly, Herdern could as well be called "Maier-town". Until the 19th century, about two thirds of the population had the surname Maier/Mayer. When I worked my way through the parish registers, i went crazy having Maiers everywhere, often with the same first names also, and it was real tough to find out which of them were actually my ancestors. Hours and hours of reading Maier entries... But if you are looking for ancestors by that name, take note of the fact that Maier/etc. is a frequent name in most parts of Germany, Herdern is just an extreme case. 3. Hello Jo, You know it's really interesting.   For years I had been looking for Regina on a variety of mailing lists without any responses and in the last few weeks there's been a flurry of activity.  Thank you for your input.  It's difficult to know if this Regina is related.  I need to work my way back to see if that's the case.  However, like my cousin says, "I'm like a squirrel....I pick up all nuts in case I need one of them in the future".  Thank you for adding to my pile.  My cousin lives not very far from Stuttgart and he's been a great help.  Daniela ________________________________ From: Jo Burkhardt <Jburkhardt@acpl.lib.in.us> To: baden-wurttemberg@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, January 23, 2009 11:22:44 AM Subject: Re: [BW] Seitz Hi Daniela I have a book of marriages and births in the area of Musberg which is really close to Stuttgart. 3. Contact the Municipal Archives for New York City. You should be able to get a copy of thier marriage record. Sometimes marriage records give you a lot of of information. I got my great grandparents marriage record this way and it told me that one of them had been married before and it also told their parents names and they were married in 1890. They have a website that you can get all of the information from them about ordering documents. The last time I ordered something from them it cost $12. Very reasonable in this day and age.
