    2. ROBERTA SCHULTZE
    3. Yes, the Colorado River's natural outlet to the sea is into the Gulf of California, a.k.a. the Sea of Cortez.,, but, alas, it dries up before from over water allocation. Perhaps the list member is thinking of the Arkansas River , the headwaters of which are around Leadville, Lake County, Colorado? My great grandfather, Theodore Schultze, born in Heidelberg, took his family to Leadville in the mid-1880s. Originally a bookkeeper, Theo became a co-owner of salon in Leadville my great aunt, grandfather and twin great uncles were born there, the twins are buried in the cemetar there. Sent from my NOOK

    3. Thaddeus Bechtold is my GGrandfather. He was married to Anna Meyer. His children (Wilhelmina b 1853, Pauline b 1850, and Joseph b 1862) immigrated to U.S. and settled in Chicago, Ill. 1873-76. I can't find out anything about what town they came from other than on Census and death records. Whilhelmina is my grandmother her records say: Stuttgart, West Phalli, Wittenberg, Wurttemberg, Germany. I cannot find birth, Immigration, Naturalization or Emmigration records for any of them. How long did the ships take to come to US after leaving Germany. I know it would depend on where they came to in U.S. I don't know what month to look at on the Ship records. Also, I would like to know if Thaddeus Bechtold is on the RAAB Index List. Thank you for any info you may help me with.Nancy

    2. Stuart, You failed to mention the time frame when your ancestor immigrated thru the Port of New Orleans. Before railroad lines were completed, the cheapest and most efficient way to travel was by water. I Agree with. other posters, that going up the Mississippi River to Cincinnati, via the Ohio River, makes perfect sense. It's quite possible that passage from Europe to New Orleans was the cheapest fare at the time. (Think back to Lewis & Clark and the Corps of Discovery; they used river systems in the early19 th century while exploring the Louisiana Purchase.)
