Marvin, Thank you for the look-up. By spelling Buehler with a "ue", I mean u-umlaut. So, yes, I am looking for B-U-umlaut-H-L-E-R. However, my ancestor is a female, Catherine, and I do not know th names of her father or brothers, so I am sorry I cannot give you a male given name. But I do appreciate knowing there are a bunch of them on the list. However, a good choice for alternate spelling would be Bühler. There a boat load of those on the list; maybe 50 or 60 of them. In addition to those, there are 12 that never listed a given name. If you are flexible enough to accept Bühler rather that Buehler, send me a given name or two and I will look again. Hi Marvin, What is this Raab List that everyone is requesting "lookups"? I missed the beginning of this thread. Hello Sue, Thank you for asking, always interested in another Appel researcher. However, I have been unable to go back in years as you have. The oldest names we have are Charles born about 1832/33 and Heinrich born 1839 and confirmed 1849 in a Alt St. Peter's Church, but don't know where the church is located, U.S. or Germany. As I had written, the 1880 NYC census stated Heidelberg as to where Charles was born. I have been at a brick wall for many years. Jeanne C. Appel
Jerry, Kronenwirth Kron and Johann Kron went bankrupt or emigrated in 1849. They are probably one and the same. Jon
Jim, two Jakob Hass emigrated in 1856, one from Stetten near to Loerrach, and the other, a butcher from Ettenheim.(the younger) Jon
Marvin: In the US John - probably some variation of Johann - no middle name or initial.
