    3. That is really odd. I just searched for my GGreat Grandfather, Ezechiel Herter and a search with just Herter and he didn't appear. Castle Garden is where I found him originally that eventually led to my Moessingen connections. I even recall the date: Dec 1 1860 and the ship: Bark Jubilaeum. Keep us apprised as to the castlegarden.org response. Here is the URL: http://www.transcribe-group.com/ The list owner can be emailed at [email protected] The YAHOO! group page is at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/transcribe/   To make use of the service, one must upload one page documents to the website. Volunteers transcribe and/or translate from the old German.  I have used this service several times with excellent results.    Annette Vliet nee Blum ________________________________ From: James Gorman <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, March 26, 2012 8:17 AM Subject: Re: [BW] reading the old German script Excellent,  thank you for all these great resources! jim On Sun, Mar 25, 2012 at 3:27 PM, Barbara A. 3. Keith, Actually, the ISTG is mostly a collection of ship passenger lists that individuals transcribed for their own research. It is far from a complete list. The information at CastleGarden.org is much more complete for New York entries starting in 1820 through 1892 when Ellis Island opened, but lacks the images. However, the LDS have digitized those same images (not indexed) at FamilySearch. See for New York https://familysearch.org/search/collection/show#uri=http://familysearch.org/searchapi/search/collection/1849782 and for New Orleans https://familysearch.org/search/collection/show#uri=http://familysearch.org/searchapi/search/collection/1916009 At 07:03 PM 3/25/2012, you wrote: >From: keith nuttle <[email protected]> >Subject: Re: [BW] Immigration to America -Transportation etc. >To: [email protected] >Message-ID: <[email protected]> >Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8; format=flowed > >There are two sites that I am aware of for getting passenger information. > >The first requires a subscription to Ancestry but you can get images of >the actual passenger manifest. > >The other is through http://www.immigrantships.net/ > >These are some times transcriptions. > > > >On 3/25/2012 11:42 AM, Morris Felder wrote: > > Dear List: > > > > Trying to find on what ship my relative used to come to America > around 1851-1853?? > > Ricard Leopold Felder applied for immigration in 1851 from Baden,Germany > > I presume he came to America aroud that time but cannot find what > ship he used > > Does anyone know of a website that would give me information. > > He did have a brother living in New Jersey at that time etc. > > Any help will be appreciated. > > > > Morris Felder > > New Orleans, Louisiana > > ____________________________________________________________ 53 Year Old Mom Looks 33 The Stunning Results of Her Wrinkle Trick Has Botox Doctors Worried http://thirdpartyoffers.netzero.net/TGL3241/4f6fdc85471e3acbb18st02duc

    3. I think that what is in the naturalization papers depends on where and when it was issued. It also depends on how citizenship was granted. I am not sure of all of the legal functions that has to be done, but in one they can go before a judge, and swear allegiance, the judge signs it and they are citizens. In other cases they file an application and then that goes through an approval process. Depending the way it is handled the records are handled differently. Like I said I don't understand the complete legal difference, but I have copies of one from Circleville Ohio in the 1870's and it has very little information. I have another from the 1840's in Fort Wayne Indiana and it has several good dates, and a lot of flowery language about giving up allegiance to the German Ruler. For another from Indiana, I tried was told it was filed and located else where. Time ran out before I could get there to get the copy. Maybe someone who better understands the process can explain it better.
