If this helps, my Born family left Hesse-Darmstadt (Alzey) in 1836 & 1837 by way of Le Havre. They came into New Orleans. Good luck! Jim and All, Just as a heads-up: I recently searched the Castle Garden site, and could NOT find some entries that I had found previously. Something strange is going on there. I wrote them to ask why my earlier finds were missing, but they haven't answered. Walter G. Thank you for the information. Is there further information for Georg, Johann, Johann Michael or Peter? I am trying to find a connection from Russia to Germany and haven't gotten past the Wentz family in about 1819. Linn, There were no Jacob or Peter Steiners. Sorry. Your Peter Stahler's record is unusual in that it includes a death date and place. I assume from that, that he died in prison. Keith, Go to www.familysearch.org Scroll down to "Browse by Location" Click on the collection "United States" Many of the collections (about 1/3) will be marked as "Browse Images," which means that indexing for that collection is not complete. BTW: the same is true (images not indexed) for all the collections. Europe appears to be only about half indexed. Also note that they are continuously adding new collections.
