    2. This is great news, Marvin. Some villages/towns to investigate. My Joseph didn't come to America until between 1850 and 1853, so it's a chance. Really appreciate the help. 1. [BW] The 1848-49 revolution
    2. Stuart Bechman
    3. Forgive my ignorance of much of the history of the 1848-49 revolution in Baden; but is Rastatt unusual in having such a prison set up? If there were other similar revolutionary prisons set up throughout Baden-Wurttenburg, I would think access to those records would be equally valuable to what Marvin is providing here.  But the RAAB list is the only such list, and the only such prison, that I'm aware of. Or was Rastatt perhaps the epicenter of the revolution? I guess I don't know how far the revolution extended across Germany. My impression was that it played out in all of the German states, but perhaps I am mistaken. -Stuart Date: Fri, 30 Mar 2012 08:23:18 -0500 From: "Marvin Hoerig" <[email protected]> To: "Patricia Stasch" <[email protected]>,     <[email protected]> Patricia, Thank you so much for your clarification on the "Lit" found in these records. These records very seldom list death dates and places.  When a death is listed as 1848 or 1849 and the place of death is Rastatt, the bio for that prisoner often, but not always,  indicates that he was executed.  When death dates are for years beyond '48 & '49,  I often wonder if that person was held past 1849.  With your info on the meaning of Lit, I now wonder if Raab entered death info. that he retrieved from another source when compiling this list.  I have often see bios listing info that almost surly was gleaned from a source other than prison records. Marvin Hoerig in WI From: Carl Heilmann Sent: Thursday, March 29, 2012 9:28 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Raab Index Dear Marvin, I twice posted to roots.web a request to look for two of my ancestors from Heidelberg in the Raab Index document in your possession. There was no response, so I thought I would directly request the information from you. They are: Karl Olbert Heilmann (not sure of surname) Any request will be appreciated, including a notice that you can find no reference. Respectfully, Carl Heilmann Cincinnati, Ohio p.s., One of my sons, John, lives in Wisconsin with his family at Fox Point, 20 miles north of Milwaukee.

    3. Patricia, Thank you so much for your clarification on the "Lit" found in these records.
