I visited the area in 2007 and continue to find more information all the time. Happy searching! Glad I could be of help. 1. Jane Backhouse married 1805
    2. ROBINSON
    3. Our Jane Backhouse married in Windermere on 25 July 1805, a Thomas Robinson. No age was given, but "of Stackhouse" was written in the parish register. We have not been able to find evidence of any Backhouse families there. We thought she may have come from the Furness district. Does anyone have a spare Jane born about 1785? Maureen Robinson.

    1. New Admin Announcement
    2. Joan Asche
    3. Hello All, Just a quick note to let everyone know that I am the new administrator of this mailing list. Taking over a mailing list is a lot like walking into a theater during the middle of a movie and not having any idea of the plot. So I would like to kick things off with a ROLL AND BRICKWALL call. So please post your ancestors and most of all let us know what your BRICKWALLS are. The Mailing List THREE GOLDEN RULES. #1. BE NICE. No flaming of others or nasty criticisms of posts. #2. KEEP ON TOPIC. By that I mean genealogy. No virus reports, or commercial advertising, etc. Rootsweb has lists for many topics to serve all needs. #3. HAVE FUN! Helpful Hint: Remember to change the Subject Line when you reply to this message with your own surnames. :-) If you have any questions or comments that do not belong on-list please contact me at: jasche45133@aol.com. Sincerely, Joan Asche

    3. Hello, I wonder if anyone has any information on Alan Backhouse, a miller, who married Jane Muncaster at Newby Bridge in 1804. My gt gt grandfather James Muncaster was also a miller and I suspect that he learned the trade from his uncle Alan. Thanks, Bob Muncaster.

    3. Could someone who knows more than me (don't all shout at once) please explain about the founding of the shipyard in Barrow by the Ashburners. I know sketchy bits but can't be sure about dates etc and a list member (who is too shy to ask the list themselves) would like to know more. Thank you Colin for your info on the census, by closing it for a week I think we can expect it to be flooded by even more people on the day the site opens again, wouldn't you think they could get it right in the first place!! 3. On the census in 1841 I have my Backhouse family at Page Bank Farm but there is a name that isn't mine, it's Hannah Backhouse b. Dalton I think, her age has been rounded off to 30. I know it's been rounded off because the ages of the family members have been rounded off too. Does she belong to any of you???? Deb

    3. Hi Judy, Going back to your Richard Backhouse, you can see they named their children the way you would expect with the 2nd son being named after his maternal grandfather and the 1st daughter named after the maternal grandmother, are Richard's parents name's John and Mary? Also did Jane and Elizabeth survive? I ask because they were followed by another child quite soon after their birth, suggesting the mother may not have had the contraceptive cover of breastfeeding. Just thinking out loud so to speak. Deb
