    3. Hello, I need help with the following BENNET. I searched the archived digests, and the only reference I found to this entire family was 06 Jul 1997 by "J. Wittke" <wiseguy@e-z.net> who found Prof. Albert Arnold BENNETT in a 1944 issue of American Men of Science. The following information is from a biography of Albert Arnold BENNETT, Sr. by his wife. Albert BENNETT was born 16 Apr 1848 in Philadelphia, PA. He was the fifth child. His mother, of Huguenot descent, died when he was 7. His father, a deacon at the 5th Baptist Church in Philadelphia, died when Albert was 18. Albert married Mela Isabel BARROWS, whose father was the Rev. Brainard W. BARROWS of Middleton, CT. Albert was an American Baptist Missionary, the second Christian missionary to Japan, and the first to translate the Bible into Japanese. He died in Yokohama, Japan 12 Oct 1909, and was buried there. Together, Albert and Mela BENNETT had 7 children, all born in Yokohama, Japan. Albert Arnold BENNETT, Jr., mentioned above, was a prof. at Brown University, Providence, RI. He died of stroke BEF 1972 at ABT 86 years of age. He was married and had a daughter. Two sons of Albert and Mela are unknown. A daughter Elsie died BEF 1972. A son Brainard was living and married in 1972. Daughter Bertha never married and died AFT 1972. Harriet Colburn BENNETT who died AFT 1972 and is buried in Newton Center, MA with her husband, Fredrick W. FRENCH was also a child of Albert and Mela. She is my great-grandmother. She gave birth to my grandmother, Elizabeth Mathot FRENCH, in Adams, MA in 1916. This is all I have on my BENNETT ancestors. If anyone recognizes any of these people, or know of BENNETT's in Philadelphia, PA in 1848, please help! Thank you, Kathryn Billinsky.
