He married Sarah Rebecca Chauce in 1844. They had the following children: Annie E. (b 1844), Mary Etta (1851-1939), Sarah Maria (1853-1937), Deborah (b 1856), Samual G. (1860-1917). Family history (legend states that William was an oysterman with 500 acres of land. Family probably resided on eastern shore of Maryland.
