    3. Jay, I've been told BENNETTs are as common in Shrewsbury as SMITHs are in the rest of the country, but I do have a family of them in Upper Freehold Twp. which became Plumsted Twp. when Ocean Co. was formed in 1850. Elijah BENNETT (b. 9 May 1793 in NJ d. 7 Aug 1871 in New Egypt, Ocean Co., NJ) m. Diadem(y) ARCHER (b. 1 Aug 1797 in NJ) 6 Nov 1817 in Monmouth, NJ. They had 9 children - Mary BENNETT b. 1820 in NJ Ellen BENNETT b. 21 Dec 1823 in New Egypt George W. BENNETT b. abt 1831 in New Egypt Diadem BENNETT b. abt 1832 in New Egypt Ivins BENNETT b. 9 Oct 1835 in New Egypt d. 30 May 1839 William H. BENNETT b. 9 Jan 1837 in New Egypt d. 17 Nov 1851 Ivins (Evan) BENNETT b. abt 1840 in New Egypt Amanda BENNETT b. abt 1842 in New Egypt William J. BENNETT b. abt 1849 in New Egypt. Elijah and family are found in the 1830 and 1840 censuses in Upper Freehold Twp. among a crowd of ARCHER neighbors, though I don't know exactly which were his father-in-law and which his brothers-in-law. A correspondent suggested that Diadem ARCHER's grandfather may have been George ARCHER who married Diadem DROMAN 27 Nov 1762 in Monmouth, NJ. If anybody rings a bell, I'd love to hear from you, as a cousin and I have been searching for Elijah's parents and siblings for years. Generally, they arrived in these areas around 1680-1750, having migrated from Long Island and Manhattan. The principle Dutch families I'm searching are Bennet (Bennett), Van Mater, Van Cleaf (Cleef, Cleave), Covenhoven (Kouwenhoven), Lane, Van Pelt, Emmons, and Van Barkalow (Barkeloo). My ancestors also lived near and married plenty of Schenks and Polhemus's; so I have some info on these folks also. [The principle Monmouth County NJ non-Dutch families I'm searching are Crawford, Fields, Morris, Drum, Lamb, Herbert, Covert, De Grote, Bailey, Truax, and Willet.] If any of you care to compare notes I'd appreciate your interest. Thank you Jay ______________________________
