Leslie, I am trying to make a connection to the BENNETTs in Isle of Wight, VA. We have been told that there is a link from our BENNETT clan all the way back to Thomas BENNETT and while it looks interesting we have no proof. I'll give you the info as we know it. My name is Allan Bennett from Cincinnati, OH. I have been researching the BENNETT line in southwestern KY and northern TN for the last several years. Several BENNETT researchers in my family have tried to go backward from Kentucky and Tennessee to (we think) Virginia with no success for quite a few years. Just recently I followed up on a query on the Kentucky GenWeb pages for Knox Co., KY and received an email from a gentleman who said he had my "missing link". Needless to say we were very interested but have been unable to get any proof - just some names and dates. Our backward searches have historically come to a halt with a John BENNETT who came to northern Tennessee late in the 1790s. We do not have a confirmed birth or death date for him. He was marrried to a Rebecca ???. He and a few other BENNETTs (Thomas and Ezekiel) obtained land in what was then Knox Co., KY later to become Whitley Co. The lineage that follows is what was provided to us and we have no proven connections for any of it. The gentleman who supplied us with a suggested lineage says that this John BENNETT (who we always called a Sr. since he had a son named John) was actually a Jr. himself. He was born c. 1765 in Brunswick Co., VA and died in Whitley Co., KY in 1830. He was the son of another John BENNETT born c. 1740 Isle of Wight Co., VA, married Elizabeth Sadler in NC c. 1760 and died c. 1798 in Dinwoodie Co., VA. John was the son of Benjamin BENNETT born c. 1704 Brunswick Co., VA, married a Sarah ???, died c. 1783 Brunswick Co., VA. Benjamin was the son of James BENNETT born c. 1682 Isle of Wight Co., VA, married Mary Rogers, died 1 Mar 1752 Surrey Co., VA. James was the son of Richard BENNETT born c. 1645 Isle of Wight Co., VA, died c. 1720 Surrey Co., VA. Richard was the son of another Richard BENNETT born c. 1625, Isle of Wight Co., VA, married Ann ??? c. 1641, died after 4 Dec 1709. Richard was the son of Thomas BENNETT born c. 1580 in England, married Alice Pierce c. 1624, James City, Isle of Wight Co., VA, died c. 1642 Isle of Wight Co., VA. Do any of these BENNETTs cross any of the lines you are researching? If so any additional details, references, etc. would be most appreciated. In addition to the links supplied by a fellow BENNETT researcher I also used the Alta Vista search engine on some of the names in my suggested lineage to see what I could find and I found a gold mine! The lineage that I had been recommended to search begins with a Thomas BENNETT that was born c. 1580 in England, married Alice Pierce c. 1624 in James City, Isle of Wight Co., VA and died c. 1642 in Isle of Wight Co., VA. I did some searches on 'Thomas Bennett' & 'Alice Pierce' and was rewarded with a reference to a home page on Georgia GenWeb for Bacon Co. It is hosted by a Dean Bennett who took a huge amount of research of someone in his family, added some of his own and has the "Descendants of Thomas Bennett" from Generations 1 through 8! There is a huge amount of material (with what appears to be some very good documentation) on the BENNETTs including some lines that go through Isle of Wight and Brunswick Co. Take a look and see if any of the names you are looking at show up there. If you ned the exact URL i will have to do some digging for it. The Search Engines will probably get yi\ou there though.
