    3. I also find it excellent; I've spoken to the author on a few occasions and he is very diligent and serious about getting facts straight. The breadth and depth of his families in the book is impressive. 1. New Bennett Book
    2. Bennett, David A.
    3. The following announcement describes a just-published Bennett book: "William Ardriaense Bennet - Descendants and Related Families" c1998 by Kenneth A. Bennett. Published by Gateway Press, Inc. "In June 1636, William Adriaense Bennet and Jaques Bentyn purchased 930 acres of land in Gowanus, where he built Brooklyn's first home. Eminent historian Dr. Henry R. Stiles, in his "History of the City of Brooklyn," credits William Adriaense with the first step in the development of the Township of Brooklyn. Commencing with the purchase of Indian land in Brooklyn, the book "William Adriaense Bennet" chronicles the spread of Bennet's family to all points on the compass. It strives not to be merely a collection of names and dates, but to give insight in to its subjects' lives. "William Adriaense Bennet" consolidates and expands upon other treatises dealing with William and his descendants, i.e., works by Teunis G. Bergen, Andrew D. Chidsey, Jr., John Reynolds Totten, Andrew J. Provost, Jr., Wilson V. Ledley, and Althea M. Courtot. Among the many prominently mentioned related families are Kouwenhoven, Rapalje, Ryder, Schenck, Stillwell, Strycker, Van Brunt, Van Voorhies, and Wyckoff. Consisting of 324 pages, the book has an index of over 5,000 names, a bibliography of 151 sources and numerous photographs. If you fall into any of the following categories, this book is worth considering: You are a descendant of William Adriaense. Your are a Bennett uncertain of your ancestry. Any of you forbears married into the Bennet/t family. Early New York/New Jersey/Pennsylvania history is of interest to you. You are a devotee of genealogy." The announcement further states, "To discourage the type of controversies that have been occasioned by announcements of other books, we wish to make it make known our policy: all books are sold on a no-refund basis. Having said that, we offer guidelines to assist prospective buyers. You will NOT find your line of descent if: your ancestor emigrated from England; your ancestor emigrated after 1636; your ancestor emigrated and settled in Virginia or Massachusetts; your ancestor is not a descendent of William Adriaense Bennet. You MAY find you line of descent if: Your ancestor lived in NY state, especially the counties of Kings (Brooklyn), Queens, Richmond (Staten Island), New York (Manhattan), Nassau, Suffolk, Orange, and Dutchess. In New Jersey counties of Monmouth, Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon, Warren, and Sussex. In Pennsylvania counties of Bucks and Northampton. Be advised the above can only be a generalization and applies only to early generations of William Adriaense Bennet's descendants, who soon spread to all points of the compass. Nor does it imply all Bennet/t's in the above areas were descended from W.A.B. For example, English Bennett's from Virginia settled in Monmouth County NJ years before W.A.B.'s grandson Adriaense did so near the end of the 17th century." Price $42.50 per copy including shipping and handling. To order, send check or money order to: Kenneth A. Bennett 8849 W. Camino Del Oro Peoria AZ 85382 One final note: The author of the book is my father. Although he does not have a computer, and is not a member of any of the family discussion lists, if you have questions on the book you may e-mail them to me and I will try to answer them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------------- David A. 3. Haven't posted in a long time so thought I'd list my direct line in hopes that someone new to the list might recognize a connection: Myself - Sherry Bennett (Bell) b. JULY 7 1952 NC Father - Leonard Earl Bennett b. SEPT 23 1922 NC 3rd gen. - Beulah Roosevelt Bennett b. JULY 27 1901 NC 4th gen. - Sidney Dee Bennett b. JAN 26 1868 NC 5th gen. - James A. Bennett b. APR 23 1834 NC 6th gen. - John "Johnny" Bennett b. 1812 NC 7th gen. - Rheuben "Henry" Bennett b. (unk) 8th gen. - Benjamin Bennett b. 1735 VA It is believed that Rheuben Henry Bennett was born in NC & his father Benjamin Bennett was the 1st generation born in VA who moved to NC sometime around the age that he married a Smith woman, & also that her brother Meredith Smith came w/them. They are believed to have lived in the Clinch Valley area of VA which could be in or near Russell Co., VA. After coming to NC, the Bennetts have lived mostly in Stokes Co. & we now live in the next county - Rockingham. Any help or clues greatly appreciated; also I'll gladly share more of the details on the family w/anyone who is interested in this line. Thanks - Sherry
