Any information on Peyton Bennett & Margaret Bodine married before 1823 would be appreciated. Also, family stories say they lived around Holsom River Valley. Would like to find out where in TN this is. Thanks!

My enjoyment in genealogy is sharing my information with others in my line. I do not want to sell what I have and I don't appreciate those who use this list to do so I don't like to take my time on on-line for all that has been going on about the books they have available. Marge

List subscribers, I have set the new policy regarding selling materials on the mail list in my previous posting. That policy will stand until it is changed. I have also advised both parties in the battle to take thier messages private, off the B530 list. There are consequences, so either way they will stop shortly. Now I want all other discussions to stop about the book and what is and what is not spam. Okay! Keep the lines open for genealogy research. Jim, If you have any materials that you can provide information on, I would be more than happy to add that information to the B530-L webpage at http://primusweb.com/genealogy/B530/ This has been a standing offer for the last 2 years. I will add a page for 'Books we own' and list volunteers willing to do limited lookups for others. ( We must not violate copyright laws. ) I only have one that may have limited interest. Any contributors? Dana Riffe DRiffe@primusweb.com
B530 List Subscribers, Okay. I have sat by the sidelines long enough! There is no 'official' policy by RootsWeb or by myself (2 yrs prior of managing the list before moving it to RootsWeb) on selling materials on the list. When the book offered by Penny started a flare 12 months ago and I stepped into the fire and it cooled things off for a while. Well it is appears to be refestering into another firestorm.. First off, I don't believe the list needs a 'set of rules', being an anarchist at heart. But, there are always exceptions. So here is the first 'rule' to go into the book. #1 - Selling Materials via the B530 Mail List Offers for purchase of materials will not be posted to the list at a frequency of more that once per month ( 12 per year). All posting will include: A. Statement of cost and postage/mailing fees. B. Clear policy of refund. C. Explicate information as to the source, depth and content of the material in it's relation to a Bennett family lineage. If posting are made that do not follow these simple guidelines, one warning will be made directly to the poster and to the B530 list. On the second infraction the poster will be removed from the list and blocked from being able to re-subscribe. Now to make this democratic, let me put this to a vote. At last count there are 250 subscribers on the list. If more that 125 subscribers email me directly at, DRiffe@primusweb.com and tell me that this policy is NOT fair and reasonable then I will open the policy to general discussion. Now this is important - DO NOT EMAIL ME IF YOU AGREE. I certainly do not want my email mailbox filling up with 'right-ons' . Hopefully this will be the end of the book discussion... One more thing. I do not consider the posting as 'spam' at any stretch of the practice. It is not even close. I encourage you not to label any posting that you are not in agreement with as spam. Neither to I support the right to spam. I regularly remove spam and spammers from the list. Hey this is great, make up the rules as you go... Only if you could do this with our tax returns. Am looking for anyone doing research on the BENNETT family of Bedford County, PA and Allegany County, MD. (Besides you, Darla. :>) Look forward to hearing from anybody doing this. Jerry
Al- Did you have a comment about this? All we got from you was copy of a forwarded message I sent to the list earlier today- Please, let us know how you feel about this- Thanks- Kathey
Hi fellow list members! I too am sick and tried of it. I witnessed the "first" round of Panny and the subsequent problems and now we have it again. Penny, I suggest you get a website that is free as part of your aol service and use it to sell your books. Let's get back to searching for Bennet contacts! Disperately seeking Thankful Bennet who married Noah Bishop 1772 in Burlington, NJ. Is she related to the BENNETT family of CT with several other Thankfuls? Thanks for listening. Betsy McGee Rice Riceys5@aol.com
It seems we have a disgruntled customer. We want to thank him for bringing this to our attention. This customer bought a book, read it, had an opportunity to copy some or all of it, then put it into a smaller envelope that damaged the cover of the book, and sent it back asking for a refund. When we ship an order, we consider it to be a final sale. There is an easy solution to his problem. If he will send us $3.50 to cover p&h we will send a copy to him again. We are not obligated to do this, since he returned the book to us, but we try to be fair and honest people. We are not a "company". We are just 2 people who have a sincere appreciation for the struggles our ancestors endured, and feel it is important to give our ancestors recognition and to preserve their records. Thanks for listening Penny Penlin304@aol.com
Bennett Researchers & Fellow B-530 List Members- (And *hopefully* our B-530 List Master) If I am not mistaken this "member" is using this list to SPAM us all- it was my understanding that no Rootsweb List was to be used for personal gain- I have seen several messages from this penlin304 member in the past week, harking his/her wares & I'm tired of it- is anybody else?? And now to top it all off they're FLAMING this poor guy they suckered!!! When's it going to stop? If I want to *buy* info I will go to a bookstore! I do not like seeing info SOLD here. List Master, can't you do something about this?? Doesn't anyone else, except myself & poor ole Don who got SPAMMED by these people once before, get sick of seeing this here? Let's do *something* about this now. Kathey in TX
I do not have the time for a lengthy message at this time. I research the Bennett family from Franklin County and Henry County in Virginia. The address is: http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/w/i/n/Donna-P-Wingfield/ Thanks, Donna Wingfield
Message from the B530 Webpage http://primusweb.com/genealogy/B530 Posted by: Charles Lonaberger Email: lonabec@netmcr.com There has been too much space taken up by the Linders and associated discussions per their offerings in this space. The general consensus presented here is that their Bennett Book is a localized offering specific to their research interests. As such, if you are connected to their line of Bennetts, the book may be of some use. If not, the book is useless. How many books have you ordered and found not to contain your ancestors? The difference seems to be rooters' expectations that they may order a book, get what they need, and return it if it does not contain sufficient interest for them to keep around for further research. You say you try to contact them first prior to buying the book to see if your ancestor is there but their answer does not meet your expectations? If I was selling the book, I would hate to be inundated with rooters, the majority of which are not going to buy the book as it does not contain references to their ancestor, looking for "free" information. That said, I do not like to see digests like this continue to be used by those pushing their wares when I expect it to contain queries and answers to same. It seems the answer would be for Dana to publish a policy as to standards for posting an advertisement (this is what the Linders are doing) which generates so much controversy, takes up space on his server, and for which he receives no renumeration. However he decides to do it, I would hope he limits the advertisement postings to one every other month, and that he would post a "Buyer Beware" notice at the header of the digest to end discussions such as this (unless advice is asked for). Any violations to his policy would result in a blocking of further postings from that address. I appreciate the warnings from those who disagree with the Linders' policies to those who have not dealt with the Linders, however, when buying anything thru the mail, one must be aware of any return policies up front or suffer the consequences. Finally, let us quit beating a dead horse for those of us who been around awhile. It is getting to be tiresome reading! :-) ------------------------------------------------------
Sale folks can talk. But sometimes they do not tell all. With the folks it is not what they say but what is not said!!! My dealings with them I ask several question which they did not answer. They did give a sale talk. Don >Who is Penlin304@aol.com? It's Penny & O.D.
