I thank everybody for the interesting information and insights regarding the "Echavarria" surname. In the same vein, any ideas of how I can find out if my family line was Jewish, but later converted to Catholicism? I have no proof of my ancestors being Jewishjust a little curiosity and perception. Unfortunately, I am only able to trace back to my great-grandparents Candelario Chabarria (or Echavarria) and Maria Silvas. According to the census records they were born in Mexico in the early 1880s. They later moved to Presidio County Texas. Barbara ===== Barbara Dominguez transplanted Texasn living in Takoma Park Maryland Searching for surnames: Dominguez, Rios, Leos, Chabarria (Chavarrea, Echabarria or other variants), Lara, Ortega, Silva(s), Herrera, Jaquez, Talamantez.
