Exciting Genealogical News: 1992 was the last National Genealogy Conference to be held in Phoenix, so you know how excited we are to announce that GENTECH has chosen Phoenix as the Host City for their 2003 conference. Some of you are saying, what is GENTECH? Simply stated it is a Genealogy Technology Conference. Each year the program provides the best opportunity to learn about the latest advancements in Technology and Genealogy. The first GENTECH was held January, 1993 in Dallas, Texas before there was a World Wide Web, Windows and most of our genealogy programs. We've come a long way baby. Most of us wonder now how we ever got along without the computer and the Internet. GENTECH 2003 will be held on Friday and Saturday January 17 & 18 at the Phoenix Civic Plaza. The theme will be "Digital Technology - The Ancestral Frontier." National Conference and Program chairs for the event are Rusty Perry and Jeannie Rogers. If you would like to volunteer, and be a part of this exciting event contact Barbara Reeves Whittaker at [email protected] or 480-892-1778. You can also check out the web site, and fill out the volunteer form at http://www.agcig.org/gt03.htm. Volunteers will be needed in January to start work on the publicity campaign for this event. Suzanne Siders is the Chair of that Committee. Feel free to pass this message on to your membership and genealogy friends, and be sure and included it in your next newsletter. We will keep you updates on the events for GENTECH 2003.
I just received copies of my great-grandparents and my great-great grandparents marriage certificates. Both are signed by the Justice of the Peace. Can I assume the ceremony was a civil ceremony or was the certificate just verified/registered by the Justice of the Peace and was performed by somebody else at a different location? Any ideas? Barbara P.S. Does anybody know if it is legal to scan and post vital records on the internet for genealogical purposes? Some of the document say that they are not to be duplicated. Is scanning considered duplication? ===== Barbara Dominguez transplanted Texasn living in Takoma Park Maryland Searching for surnames: Dominguez, Rios, Leos, Chabarria (Chavarrea, Echabarria or other variants), Lara, Ortega, Silva(s), Herrera, Jaquez, Talamantez. I thank everybody for the interesting information and insights regarding the "Echavarria" surname. In the same vein, any ideas of how I can find out if my family line was Jewish, but later converted to Catholicism? I have no proof of my ancestors being Jewishjust a little curiosity and perception. Unfortunately, I am only able to trace back to my great-grandparents Candelario Chabarria (or Echavarria) and Maria Silvas. According to the census records they were born in Mexico in the early 1880s. They later moved to Presidio County Texas. I am new to this list and I am looking for information about the Dominguez Family. Two Questions: 1) Is this family familiar to anybody? 2) How can I verify this information? Does the state have records that go back that far? Joseph DOMINGUEZ and Lojina TALAMANTEZ are thought to be from Spain. They had at least son, Gabino DOMINGUEZ. Gabino was born Feb 19, 1845 (maybe in Arizona), and married Paula (Piola) JAQUEZ. Gabino died on Jan 3, 1933 in Pecos Reeves County Texas. Gabino and Paula's children are: Santana, Juana, and Gabino Jr. Santana is my great-grandfather, and moved to Presidio County Texas and later to Pecos Reeves County Texas. Santana married Maria RIOS. The children are thought to be born in Arizona, perhaps in Merenzi (spelling?) AZ. Gabino and his family later moved to Presidio County Texas about 1870. Thank you. Imelda: Because of the disruptions of what you might call normal tribal patterns, indians from many tribes moved into areas not usually associated with them. A person of indian descent in Santa Cruz county might be from Pima, Papago, Yaqui, Opata, Apache, or any number of other tribal groups. He might have ancestry from more than one tribe. I would think that you would have a better chance searching by name than by tribal group. Raclare
I am searching for the names of Indian Tribes in Santa Cruz County, Arizona. I was born in Nogales, AZ in 1970 and moved to San Francisco, California in 1973. I have always *known* that I have Indian blood in me but because I never knew my father, and my mother still refuses to give me any information to this date, I am attempting to search on my own. I have tried doing internet research but have not gotten any results. Any assistance would be *greatly* appreciated! *~*In Love and Light*~* Imelda )O(

I'm looking for descendants of these two Reagan brothers: Adam Lee Reagan & James Henry Reagan. They married sisters, Drucsilla and Mary Louise Billings. They came to Arizona about 1909 [from Texas]. I hope to contact some descendants to fill in some gaps in the family records. My husband's gr-grandmother was their sister, Caroline Barthenia "Feenie" Reagan, who married John Strickland in Del Rio Texas. I have much to share. Doris Peirce
