She was, apparently, the only surviving family member of an Indian raid on Tucson in about 1850. She escaped into the mountains, and eventually made her way to Los Angeles. She married a man there named Alexander Nelson, whose name had been Americanized from the Norwegian Eric Nilson Giere, when he emigrated in 1846 with his family. The Nelsons settled in Los Angeles and probably did quite well there. My wife is from the Giere family. Although I'm a Nelson, I'm not a Nelson from this family at all.
