POWELL The Arizona Republic Phoenix, AZ Sunday 17 Feb 2002 pg B5 Elmer M. POWELL, ret. Col. USAF. Born June 25, 1923. Beloved husband, father and friend, he was called to serve the Lord in heaven as he did on earth Feb. 11, 2002. Elmer served in the USAF for 36 years retiring in 1978. He was a bomber pilot during WWII and received many commendations including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Legion of Merit. He resided in Fla. before moving to Peoria, AZ in 1994. Elmer was known for his smile, his sense of humor and great hugs. We will all miss those hugs! He always put the Lord first in his life and set a great example of how one should live life. Elmer is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alice; 2 daughters,Vicki WILLIAMS and Robin PEDLER both of Phoenix; son, Kevin of Lisbon, OH; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Contributions can be made to Sun Health Hospice Center. Services will be held at Willowbrook UMC, 19390 N. 99th on Feb. 24th at 3PM. Interment at Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
