She died in 1953 in the Maricopa Co., area... maybe in Wickenburg or Phoenix??? If someone could please look her up? I would like to get an obituary and a death certificate on her. Irene was born abt 1906 in Ohio... to William O. and Emma A. Sands Tomson/Thompson... they keep changing the spelling on me. Irene was married to Irell Keith Outland, who died in Phoenix on 27 Jun 1977. he was remarried to Bertha Miller at that time. I have his obit, which states that he was buried in Wickersburg, AZ.... which I think was a typo for Wickenburg... as I used to live in AZ, and don't remember a Wickersburg in the Maricopa Co., area. Thank you in advance for any help.

    1. [Maricopa] Re: Army Base Near Phoenix
    2. Diane Casey
    3. Re: Army Base Near Phoenix Not sure whether there were any army bases in the Phoenix area in the 1940's but there certainly were Air Force Bases (and still are). The Air Force Bases are in the Phoenix area, the army bases are more toward Tucson which is not considered in the Phoenix area. The air force bases are: Luke AFB (West Phoenix), William's AFB (closed but now a small airport near Chandler, AZ), & Davis-Monthan AFB (still open near Tucson). Below are other Army bases, most now closed before the 1940's but near Phoenix. Only FORT HUACHUCA (SE Tucson about 170 miles SE Phoenix) still open and the Yuma Proving Grounds. (From: http://www.ida.net/users/lamar/historicfort.html) FORT APACHE - 1924 From Globe, take US 60 northeast 66 miles; turn east on State 73 and drive about 27 miles to Fort Apache. FORT BOWIE It was the focal point of operation against Geronimo and the Apaches, at Apache Pass by Bowie Arizona. FORT DEFIANCE - The post was abandoned in 1861. From Gallup, New Mexico, take US 666 north; turn west on State 264 to Navajo 7; drive past Window Rock to the Agency. FORT GRANT - 1912 From Safford, go south on US 666 about 17 miles turn west on State 266 and drive 22 miles to the Arizona State Industrial School. FORT HUACHUCA - still open Fort Huachuca is located on State 90, 24 miles west of Bisbee. an army base near Sierra Vista, off State Route 90, 70 miles southeast of Tucson (so that's about 170 miles se of Phoenix). It's Mailing address: Fort Huachuca, AZ 85613. A non-official webpage is: http://www.armyallotment.com/huachuca.html At the bottom of the page are links to all armed services. Official link is: http://huachuca-www.army.mil/ HUBBELL TRADING POST Indian trading post by Ganado Arizona. FORT LOWELL - 1866 The rebuilt officers' quarters now contain a museum. The fort is eight miles east of Tucson on Craycroft Road, south of Fort Lowell Road. FORT VERDE The post was moved in 1871 to higher ground a mile south, and a Yavapi Reservation was created to the North. The fort headquarters is now a museum. The town of Camp Verde is 49 miles south of Flagstaff on Interstate 17 then two miles east on State 79. FORT WHIPPLE -The post was abandoned in 1913 Fort Whipple was established in 1864 one-mile northeast of Prescott. Also there is the Yuma Proving Grounds which is even farther from Phoenix. U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground is located near the Arizona-California border. http://www.yuma.army.mil/ Hope this isn't too confusing. Diane Casey ILuvAZ@cox.net

    1. [Maricopa] Marriage Records Available?
    2. Hello List, Can anyone tell me if marriage records during WWII are available? If they are, where please? I have been looking for the marriage of my parents, Leslie Kenneth Parrett and Edith Catherine Robins, for quite a while. They may have been married in Phoenix, AZ just before Leslie went to Europe in the Army in 1943. I have a photo of them (he in Army uniform) taken by Aleksander Studio, Phoenix, AZ. It doesn't have a year listed on the photo. From his army discharge it has him inducted on 23 Jun 1942 and departing the states for Europe on 8 Oct 1943. I would appreciate any leads. Thank you!! -- Loretta "Loni" Parrett Welsh from Boring, Oregon, USA **Researching: ASHPOLE, EVEREST, PARRO(E)TT, SQUIRE(S), & WICKENDEN from England **HAGEY, LIVENGOOD, & SHUCK from Germany & Switzerland

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/xU.2ADE/438.1 Message Board Post: 9-17-2002 Please mention what your relationship is to Mr. Walrath. You may want to contact the Sun City Daily News (website www.dailynews-sun.com and click on the CONTACT US link to find an address and/or phone number), and ask their Obituaries Editor if they have back issues of the newspaper on microfilm (they probably don't) or if they could refer you to a local library or genealogical researcher who could find the obit for you in another source. If they don't have the back issue of that newspaper on file, you may want to consider contacting the county courthouse to see if he had a probate file (which would contain names of surviving family) or ordering a copy of his death certificate from the State of Arizona. keith345@hotmail.com
